Question Cheated out of Federal Phone Minutes

Hi Everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone is experiencing a loss in their BOP phone minutes. We are suppose to get 15 minutes for each call but we are getting minutes lopped off of each call. Sometimes 3, 5 sometimes even 7 minutes.

However, when the phone bill arrives they show a full 15 minutes being used up, which is false. I feel like this is bordering on embezzlement pinching money here and there from unused minutes. I have a timer on my phone that shows what time the call came in and what time it ended to show this pattern.

Does anyone know of any recourse we may have against this practice? Has anyone else experience this as well?

Thanks,
Mrs. Joe

Yes!! I just told him this today. I just got a phone with a timer on it, and lo and behold, I started paying attention to it. I knew that those calls seemed awfully short. They are lopping off a minute or two here most times.

We have experienced it. Many of times! I try to look at it most times because I never want to believe that quick 15 minutes is up....and usually I am right.
Not on every call though. And when it happens....not usually more then 2 minutes.

I wonder....you know it takes time for them to type in their number...then the number to be dialed. I can't see it taking 2 minutes.
But wonder if that plays a part...

I just spoke to my boyfriend and I didn't lose any minutes, actually I never have. Maybe it's certain facilities doing this.

I don't every time...just every so often.

I will have to start a log of them if I remember.

Usually the call will be 15 minutes and 43 seconds for the taped intro. But we are suppose to get a full 15 minutes of talk time. I think things are run by a computer which they are able to program to do certain things. The CO's in Petersburg are very petty with us visitors. They make things personal, I can imagine them doing something like this just to make things difficult.

this only has happened to me one time before. Our time was up after 9 mins. He prepays his calls so I am not sure what the deal was. I know he was cussing and pretty mad. He said he was not out of mins. but it was new years eve and the lines were pretty long so he wasnt sure if that had anything to do with it but usually it is about 15 mins and a few seconds before we get the dreaded beep.

I have been monitoring our minutes in the past few days and guess what it did happened. He prepays his calls, so I asked him for the amount of minutes he paid for, at the end of call I saw we were cheated 2 minutes. The following day I mentioned it to him and said he had noticed and that it had happened in another call to his mom. It hasn't happened anymore since monday. I hope this stops b/c 300 minutes is not enough and now we're being cheated out of minutes, oh please.

Im going to keep tabs on it since I got this new phone with the counter. Not that they will do anything about it I'm sure, but I just want to see exactly how many of my precious minutes get taken.
