Every time i hear the media talk about pot, they always say it is the gateway to other drug use. I feel alcohol is the gateway to the use of other drugs. In almost everyone i talked to they said they ran into first time drug use while at drinking parties, but alcohol is legal. How many of you know someone who has died from drinking related death? By no means am i promoting drug use. What do you think is it pot or alcohol ?
I think Weed is a gateway drug... It's only so high that you can get smoking weed I have many drug addicts that I grow up around and they gave have atested to the fact that they started off with weed and after so long they looked for a stronger drug to get them higher... Acholic usually stick to achol if that's there thing but everyone is different

Personally I do not believe in a gateway drug. You are either an addictive personality or you are not. Some smoke weed and never do it again some smoke and want something more. thats not because opf the pot its because they have an addictive personality. medically smoking a joint is better for you than having a beer. the damn government would legalize pot if they could tax it all.... thats the truth

I think anything that reduces your ability to make sound decisions without and altered state of mind is a gateway drug.
While alcohol is legal,it is just as bad in my opinion.

I don't believe there is such a thing as a "gateway drug." I think that's a stupid made-up term used to help along the war against marijuana use. If you're going to do drugs, you're going to do them no matter if you tried alcohol, weed, or cigarettes.
I've smoked weed for about 11 years now, fairly consistently. Never tried anything else except alcohol, which I don't drink much anymore.

Pot may be labled a gateway drug, but it's really not. I smoked for many years and never wanted anything else. I even just up and quit many times due to work and stuff. It wasnt at all addictive.
People that move to harder stuff are doing it because they've just got an addictive personality. That's really all there is to it.
Alcohol is far worse, both in being addictive, and for it's adverse health effects. Also alcohol may lead to far worse drinking or harder substances.
For instance: Drinking beer HEAVILY, the beer eventually wont do it for you anymore and since alcohol is somewhat addictive, it'll lead to harder drinks like vodka, whiskey (one of the big ones) and whatnot.
Also note that drugs are often more or less started by peer pressure most of the time. I know people that smoke weed daily now that only ever took other harder drugs when their friends talked them into it. They'd have never done it otherwise. I've never once heard of someone claiming marijuana caused them to want heroin. That's just false.

I also don't believe there is a gateway drug, your either gonna use or not...I smoked weed in my younger years and drank alcohol and never tried anything stronger or felt I needed to get more high...I did it to have a lil fun not to get to the point of losing myself, my life was never that bad! so I think ppl do what they feel and if they feel the need to get more high is because they got lost along the way...just my opinion

I think it is to an extent, most kids try weed first & think "hey! This didn't kill me it was nothing like they taught us in school." .... So then most of the time, those same "kids" go onto trying harder drugs with the mentality that it won't kill them or won't be addicting.

I think youre right about that and i think politicians, teachers, etc cause this problem by spreading lies about drugs like marijuana and hallucinogens.

I think coffee is way more addictive than marijuana... No one ever really thinks of it as a drug though.
Great news about you man tell him to stay strong the system isn't the place for anyone follow the right path it may take longer but you will get there.
I would say that gateway drugs are a myth really. With alcohol and weed being so common its just going to be the laws of probability that predicts they would have one or the other before a harder drug. Not many people are going to go straight into meth or coke after not even drinking.
It's a bit like saying that learning to ride a bicycle made you join a motorbike gang.

I think it's pot considered a gateway drug because if you are they type of person who will try something not as socially acceptable as alcohol.
My friend works with ex drug users who now have mental health issues and most of them are people with delusions or paranoia after pot use, not saying it happens to everyone but it happens.
But in my opinion there is no such thing, you either do or you don't.

I would disagree. The drug wars have a long history of racism and racism and turning a profit are not alike. Also, not to get into arguments, it doesn't really look to me like governments are trying to make money; they're mostly overspending the money they have.

Alcohol is way more dangerous and prevalent. I dare you to check out those anonymous groups and count how many people are going to AA vs. those who are going to NA. An alcoholic family leads to more alcoholics more times than not. Pot in the family is more a habit than something you pick up by blood.
