Angry Dental care 🦷

My loved one has cavities.

After an initial berating by the hygienist who assumed it was from not brushing, he received an exam to which she exclaimed how clean his teeth are. Oral health is a big concern for him, and he brushes after each meal, however it's with a very stiff bristled toothbrush. Many people don't realize that they can't just buy a soft bristled tooth brush or required hygiene items - some of these items are state issued and are not acceptable. The hygienist told him he was causing damage to his gums and needs to use a soft bristled brush. He told her he doesn't have access to one, doesn't even have the option to buy one.

She said he will be put on a list to have this affected teeth extracted. Extraction!? Why are fillings not offered? Why do families not have the opportunity to pay out of pocket for suitable care?

When I worked for a Florida health department, we provided dental care for the local jail. We charged $90 to pull their teeth. We charged medicaid $90 per filling for children's teeth. It's not to save money. If it were to save money, there would be an option to self pay.

I think, it is one of the most important for all the people, prisoned or not. The thing is that brains are near teeth. And any problem can cause troubles with the brain.
