Default Sometimes prison is just what they need.

Hello,
It's been years since I have been here. I think of you often.
Just wanted to give you all hope and know that it is possible for your son's and daughters to come home and make a new life.
Upon my son's release he stayed with us and started attending college. He Alway wanted to be a fire fighter, not easy to do with a record. He educated himself so much that soon they could know longer say no. He is now working as a fire fighter. He also has been invited to go to the prisons and tell his story.
I'm proud of what he has done to improve his life. It took 6 years but it just shows that if they really want to change, they will. He had a family that supported him, also he knew if he went back to prison I would not give him the support he received this time.
Before going to prison I cried and prayed for him not to go. Why would God not listen to me, he knew more. My son needed a wake up call and prison was the one thing that woke him up.
My heart and prayers are Alway with you all.

Thank you for sharing your update. I am so happy to hear that your son came out with a mission to follow the right path and even after being denied his dream he stayed with it and kept going until he achieved it. I am happy things are working out for you and your son, congrats for his success.

Thank you for sharing with us. I do worry about my son’s future when he’s released in 3 years, but hearing that your son has succeeded in making a good life for himself gives me hope that my son will do the same. I don’t stress very much about the fact that he’s in prison. I know for sure that it saved his life and I can only hope that this is the wakeup call that he needed. At least I do know that he is finally clean and sober and if he stays that way, I do think he will make it.

Congratulations to your son on his success and best wishes to you. It must be nice to finally have some peace of mind! Thanks for posting.

hi Judean!! We joined PTO the same year! So happy to hear that your son has been so hardworking and successful!! Yay!!
My son struggles and works at sobriety. But he does have a family of his own now, and a great paying union job.

Prison needs to be reformed. But some of those who got out hated it enough to never again want to lose their freedom. Some have deep addictions that prison doesn't work on. I pray all the time for there to be a better way than the system we presently have to experience.

I remember you, Judean and it is so good to hear that your son has done so well-what an accomplishment! My son just had his fifth anniversary celebrating his freedom. He was able to return to his former employer and is a manager there now, has a nice girlfriend and home. He's pretty committed to staying clean and sober and works out before work each morning. Sharing my story along with yours and Jancy's to let Moms and Dads know there is definitely hope.
