Default Wiccan/ How are you & your children handling or coping with things?

I was wondering if there are any Wiccan families out here? And if so, how are your children as well as yourself handling or coping with things? They just emptied one side of one of the dorms where my son is (he was one that was told to pack up and move), to bring in boys from the main unit and placed them in the vacated dorm calling it "faith based". He is not upset nor am I, to him a bed is a bed, but it got me thinking, if he were to stand up and say he was Wiccan, what kind of reception do you think he would get? Not everyone is open to different beliefs, just asking.

Being Wiccan isn't really accepted in our society. I can only imagine what kind of treatment he would receive if he revealed his beliefs.

Being Wiccan is more acceptable than one might think.....the ones I know personally are awesome people.

icj357, as I myself am not Wiccan, I can't really answer your questions. My hope is that someone more familiar with coping while their child is incarcerated will come forward and give you their strategies.

I didn't say that I didn't accept them. I was a practicing Wiccan for years, and in the area that I live in, it's still viewed as Satanism. I was speaking from my experience.

I'm not Wiccan and neither is my son but I notice from what I read and what I know from my son that in SNY yards they tend to be more accepting of everything and most are just trying to get thru their sentence and mind their own business. now if he's out on a GP yard I think I'd just keep it to myself . FYI my son is Buddhist and I am Christian and my husband and daughter are atheists.

I happened to ask my son about this on my last visit because of a discussion elsewhere. He said there are some Wiccans but formal services are limited to mainstream Christan faiths. We are in AZ. There is a large Muslim population which allegedly an incident regarding their holy days and an inmate requesting his meal after fasting was the initial incident where a guard treated the Muslim badly and things progressed to a general riot. There is a large American Indian population and they pursue their beliefs.

My son doesn't really believe in "God" and in our discussion was surprised to learn I don't either. He said that is one of those things you do not ADMIT as that will cause more problems than believing in an alternative religion from the mainstream. He said it is a tie as to which is worse to admit to - being gay or not believing in God.
