Default How Far Should I Go With This Con Edison

Hello Everyone... Seeking Advise What You Would Do In This Case. My Balance To Pay Was 125.00 As Of July 14th I Made Payment At The Check Cashing Place Of 30.00 Bringing The Balance To 95.00 And Informed Con Ed That I Will Pay The Balance On July 21st. They Noted In My Account On July 15th. They Said We Gave You Until July 24th.
I Go Home On Thursday Night And There Is No Electric. I Called Con Ed At 730pm And Told Them I Have No Electric They Said Check The Circut Breaker But It Is Located In The Basement And The Only Way Possible Is To Knock On The Landladies Door But She Is 87 Yrs Old And Sometimes Doesnt Hear It.
So They Said Is It A Fuse I Said I Have No Fuse In My Apartment. I Then See The Grandson Who Lives In The Basement And I Asked Him To Check It He Doesnt Seem Like He Wants To Be Bothered. I Didnt Know What Was Going On, He Goes Did You Pay Your Bill I Said Yes, I Made Payment Last Week And Am Paying Con Ed On July 21st He Just Shrugged His Shoulders. I Ran Back Upstairs Called Con Ed Again I Said To Them The Main Breakers Are In The Basement But The Landladys Grandson Doesnt Know Whats Going On.
An Emergency Crew Came At 1130pm But No One Answered. It Was Late Anyway, I Was Without A/c On Thursday Night And The Food Went Bad In The Fridge... It Started To Smell And I Threw Out Everything Salads, Fruit, Meat, All The Soda And Water Was Warm. Now I Was Pissed Sitting With A Candle On. I Called Con Ed At 12midnight And Said Put In A Ticket For Friday To Come Out And They Did.
Con Ed Would Not Be Sending Out Emergency Repair If I Got My Service Turned Off For No Payments. That Is Another Department. I Called The Landlord The Landladys Son That I Send My Rent To In New Jersey His Wife Said He Is Away On Business But We Received A Letter From A Us Marshall That They Will Turn Off The Meter For Non Payment I Said I Dont Understand Laura I Have My Receipts That I Pay. I Call Con Ed They Have No Such Thing In My Account For A Turn Off Notice. She Said Call This Number That I Have On This Letter. She Said We Dont Want Them To Come And Break Down The Door To Turn Off The Meter . I Called And Again The Con Ed Rep Said On Your Account You Have Until July 24th To Make Payment We Received Your Payment On July 19th So Now 5 Agents Say Its Not Turned Off For Non Payment.
I Called Con Ed When I Get Home Friday Night I Told Them The Crew Came Here And No One Let Them In This Is The 2nd Night With No Electric What Is Going On Here? They Said We See In The Notes No One Answered . I Said Please I Cant Take This Anymore I Just Mailed You A 30.00 Money Order Today Because I Didnt Have The Full Bill When I Went To The Check Cash Place I Said I Will Run Now To The Check Cash How Much Do I Pay They Said Pay 85.00 And Everything Is Okay But We Do Not See That The Electrc Is Shut Off For A Turn Off Notice. This Is Now The 8th Customer Service Agent I Spoke To I Wrote Down All These Names Of Who I Was Speaking To. By 9pm Friday Night I Didnt Know What To Do. A Service Crew Comes And I Thought It Was Going To Be For Saturday Cause I Didnt Want To Bother The Old Lady. She Finally Opens The Door This Guy Vinny Says We Need To Turn On Her Service She Said Call My Son, This Son Is Not The Person I Send My Rent To In Jersey It Is His Brother. Vinny Knows The Son And They Were Talking When Vinny Was Talking To Him I Heard Him Say No You Dont Want Me To Turn On Her Service. So When Vinny Gets Off He Says He Said Dont Turn On Service For Non Payment Now I Am In Tears I Said What The F... Is Going On Here. He Tells Me The Landlords Son Works For Con Ed And Has A High Up Position In Con Ed. Now I Know This Guy That I Never Met Before Is Abusing His Authority. I Paid My Bill . I Am Showing Him My Receipts From Last Friday July 14th The 100.00 From That Day And 30.00 M/o All The Agents Are Telling Me No, They Dont See Service Off Cause Of Non Payment.
He Tells Me I Am Trying To Help You. I Said Con Ed Wouldnt Send You Over Or Two Other Crew Repair Techs If I Had No Payment On My Bill. But Now Its 1030pm I Am Like Having Anxiety. Again I Have No Electric On. At 1am I Call And Spoke To Two People One Was A Supervisor For An Hour And 1/2 They Said Its Okay We Have All The Payment History We Are Sending Someone Out In The Morning And They Put A Full Investigation On The Landlords Son Who Sent Someone Over From Con Ed To Turn My Meter Off On June 20th. So Saturday Morning I Am Waiting And Waiting By 12 Noon I Call Con Ed The Agent Advises Me That A Supervisor Cancels My Account Saturday Morning Along With The Investigation Because This Supervisor Will Not Have My Service Turned On Unless 56.00 Is On The Account. I Said Wait A Second The Supervisors Last Night Okayed The 100.00 At The Check Cashing They Okayed That They Received Payment On July 15th That Posted On July 19 And Now For 26.00 They Wont Come .. This Is Out Of Control. Con Ed Works With Their Customers All The Agents Are Saying Not Turned Off Because Of Non Payment One Agent Says The Computers Were Not Updated I Said It Takes 3 Days To Update An Account I Dont Think So ... So I Called My Sister And Asked Her To Put 56.00 On Her Cc And We Called Con Ed Now Con Ed Has Over 185.00 When My Balance To Pay Was 125.00. I Didnt Scream At Agents I Spoke To Them All Calm & Over 8 Agents Said The Same Thing This Agent On Saturday Says Something Different.
Con Ed Comes Sat Afternoon To Turn The Electric On. I Called Yesterday And Spoke To Customer Service They Said It Clearly States In Your Account No Service Was Suppose To Be Shut Off And All Your Payments Are Accounted For. I Told Him What Happen He Said Your Landladys Son Was Not Suppose To Be Involved Whatsoever In My Account. They Told Me To Call The Public Service When I Called Today Public Service They Looked At My Account Saying No Turn Off Notice Was On For July 20th He Said Write To The President Of Con Ed And Also Call Landlord/tenant And Dispute.
I Never Met This Other Brother Of The Landlord I Send My Rent To And Now I Am Wondering Why This Man Got Involved -
When I Told My Husband Last Night Of What Transpired He Said Sue The Mf. I Never Thought He Would Say This Ever Cause My Husband Is Quite Rational But Since 3 Days Without Electric And My Dad Says That His Wife Gets Higher Bills Her Balance Is High Also She Never Gets Con Ed Sending A Letter Just A Regular Bill Like I Was Getting.
What Would You Do In This Case...???

At this point, I don;t know what I'd do except go down to there. In the future though, rent and electricity has got to be #1 priority. Hope you get this figured out.

go down to there means where? rent and electircity is 1 priority. the man mettled in my account that he had no business whatsoever the public service commission and over 7 agents at con ed said

i was informed a letter to the president of con ed and the landlord/tenant dispute. but i deal with this mans brother in jersey when i send my rent.

will a letter to the prez actually get it turned on? I would think that the most you would recieve from a letter to him would be a form response. I guess I don't understand why if your bill is paid n full that they won't turn it on? or are they saying you still owe more money.


PS your posts would be a lot easier to read if you didn't write in all caps- it turns it into the first letter of each word capitalized and makes it very hard to understand, specially when it's a long post.

my electric is on now since saturday i do not owe any more $$$ the balance was 156.00 i paid 125.00 25.00 on july 15th and july 21st a 100.00
it was an inside job from the landlords brother that works for con ed
everyone at con ed said they do not know why he would turn off my service my bill was only 156 and 125 was paid last week and friday

Chris,I understand exactly what you're saying,and I'd be doing something about it too. You've obviously pissed the landlord or her son off at some point,right? You've had a dispute of some sort with one of them,and they played dirty and got back at you by shutting your power off,right? Well whatever the case may be,you should at least be reimbursed for the food that rotted. I'd take it to small claims court if I were you. If you don't get anywhere with Con Edison,then tell them you're going to the better business bureau,and you're taking them to court. Maybe that'll scare them and they'll reimburse you some money. It's been 104 degrees where I'm at for the past few days and if someone maliciously turned my power off I'd be fuming mad. What if you had some sort of medical condition where you needed special equipment plugged in,or even insulin that needs to be refrigerated? The list could go on and on,ya know? Nope,I wouldn't let it go and I'm usually the type that DOES just let shit go,but if that happened to me someone would be paying me something that's for dang sure! good luck!

I'm with big mama... I would expect reimbursement for food lost due to their negligence. Have you called the PUC? I would start there.

make con ed give you a security number (pin number) and a letter stating that no one but you is authorized to have an information about that account. Than ask for transcripts of every conversation with every person and all paper work relating to this mess. (Don't let them bs you to...they have it) If it wasn't shut off for non payment like they said... there should be a signature somewhere authorizing that. If they don't want to corporate... tell them your getting a lawyer.

i called a lawyer for tenant/landlord i have no disputes with the brother who i pay my rent to. this other brother that i never met before has someone turn my electric off because of a letter. well, if he was so high up he could see i paid my account and now they are overpaid. it was an inside job and i suffered for 3 days

I think that I would talk with ConEd about maybe getting your account credited and possibly getting whoever has the "inside track" that messed with your account reprimanded/fired for illegally altering your service. Tell them you will not feel it is necessary to contact a lawyer if they are cooperative in this resolution. Obviously you will need to ask to speak to a supervisor when you call them, and may very well have to ask for *that* person's supervisor as well. If THAT doesn't work the NEWSPAPER or local TV NEWS STATION has people who are "troubleshooters" that are consumer advocates and can usually resolve such matters to the consumers satisfaction since bad publicity is NOT what ConEd will want.

Is it worth the hassle?? Maybe not financially, but the principle of it all is completely worth it.

then con ed said the tech was just saying that and lying
this whole thing is over the ordinary

i did not write a letter the landord that i pay rent to in new jersey received a letter supposally from a us marshalll from con edison that i never paid ... i have my money orders every month for my bill. since his brother works for con-ed instead of having his son that lives in the basement come upstairs and say well, my uncle received a letter about turning off the meter and they will come to shut off his dad sent someone over on june 20th to turn off my electric. i was in the dark for 3 days con-ed said he was never suppose to ever send someone over and had no reason to mettle in my con ed account

I just don't understand why would you believe that a U.S. Marshall would send a letter to someone's landlord about their electric bill being late???

No form of law enforcement would be involved in that kind of matter.

that is the whole thing now. this is what the landlords wife said to me i never saw a letter like that and why would the landlord tell his brother that works for con-ed to send someone out to turn off my service when my bill was being paid.

the wife of my landlord told me about this letter from a marshal about non -payment with con ed the highest bill i got was for over 100.00 but i paid in april/may/june every month 45.00, 50.00 even con ed is wondering whats going on i dont know

i did receive a letter from con ed yesterday for $147.00 that it does say marshalls will come to turn off the meter it was mailed out on july 17th my payment posted on july 19 of 30.00 and i paid 130.00 more on july 21st it takes 5 days to post when paying at a check cashing but for 147.00 my dad said a letter should of never went out many people have a bill higher that this.

U.S. Marshalls DO NOT turn off ANYONE'S power.....Marshall's transport prisoners, escort them court, protect sequestered juries. They DO NOT turn of peoples electricity. And in the list of required experience, there is no where that states they are to have knowledge of anything to do with a power company.

If this letter indeed came from Con-Ed, I'd take it personally to the top dog for an explanation and would accept nothing less!

thank you i am making a copy of the letter along with the letter i wrote to the president of con ed with a return receipt a lawyer wanted 250.00 an hour. i want my 100.00 grocery bill paid. lol
