Default Reclassified

OMG! What would be a reason for being reclassified to a Level I this early in a sentence? He's only been at Lakeland for 2 months. He was told it would be 8 months before he was moved to a level I. But he was told to PACK UP last night!! OTIS has him at a level I but his location has not changed. Is this a good thing that hes moved down so soon? He still has over 3 years before his ERD.

See my responsive PM to you regarding this. Because of space problems, they have been waiving some guys who have been doing good time to a lower level. Unfortunately, they did this to my guy and it turned out to be a bad move - he went to a hell hole in Marquette, but thank goodness we now have him out of there.

My guy has been in a secure level 1 for a long time. He has been camp eligible for almost as long. I was hoping that he would go to camp, during all of these changes. Has anyone heard whether there are alot of releases from camps? I was figuring if they freed up some space, that he would go faster! Any info???????
I hope that is a good sign for your guy!!!

Its a good sign but it also more than likely involves bed space.

There's a lot of releases going on all over!

I would find it unusual that someone who is camp eligible would be at a Secure I for an extended period of time. I would have him check with his counselor and make sure there isn't some real-or-mistaken reason why he is still at a Secure I....

Alumni - it is called bed space. Last September, a lot of guys were waived from even some of the Level II's to camp (unsecure level I). They were trying to make room in the upper levels and now they have lower level bed space problems. It is a game of musical chairs and sometimes your "eligibility" level just doesn't cut it if there isn't a bed.

He did talk to his counselor. He said that they didn't need to move him because they weren't short on beds. He is okay where he is, but it seems ridiculous the way they do things. His erd isn't until 10/08, so maybe with all of these changes, he will stay in secured level 1, who knows? lol.... I don't think anyone knows! I just thought that because he wanted to go...... I'd ask! Thanks you guys for responding, you are quick!!!!! lol

I forget the policy, but somewhere in that morass it says (or used to say) that the presumption is that a person is supposed to be housed at the least restrictive level as per their eligibility. I would think that it would form the basis for a grievance.

My husband is classified level 1, but is in a secure level one facility. I think they just put them wherever there are beds available.

.
There is also a caveat in the policy that says there can be a departure from that for various reasons, including medical and bed space.

This is real shitty. I'm nervous that he'll be transferred out to a Level I up in the U.P. somewhere. And I cant travel up there often. He is currently at Cooper St. now. Do you think I can visit him there before they send him off.
