I live in AZ but my LO is in CA prison. Had to look him up. Sounds like Arpaio wasn't the only snake. :/

Yes, “retiring” before he gets fired. The outpouring of support to have him removed finally got him to the point of being forced out! They are allowing him to retire, rather than be fired. Every state or government position will give a person the option of stepping down, which protects their retirement benefits. I’m glad he’s going to be gone, but not pleased that he will retire with full benefits. He has been there to long acting as though he couldn’t be touched. At least we can all be pleased that our voices have finally been heard. For all of the families that suffered from his incompetent and inhumane practices, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Let’s all continue to show this state that we are no longer going to remain silent when it comes to our loved ones and their treatment. It’s definitely a time for change!!!

You’re absolutely correct! We finally removed Arpaio and there have been some positive changes within the county jails. Ryan and Arpaio were certainly quite the duo for far too long. Unfortunately for the public their reign of terror was never exposed unless there was a death that couldn’t be covered up and swept under the rug. There are so many lawsuits and families that were basically paid off to keep all these injustices quiet. And we, the families of those incarcerated are the ones paying for those coverups. You wonder where all the money goes that we are forced to pay to keep our loved one “comfortable?” Basically we are paying through taxes, and then again for every service we are forced to use within the prison system. It’s apalling that families are forced to pay fees to just place money on a loved ones books! If you talk to people in other states our fees are completely inflated. The entire system needs an overhaul, hopefully this is the start on a long overdue house cleaning! We have to keep the injustices in the media, it’s our only voice, the only way that changes are going to be forced into practice. This state has been a joke for far too long!!

In a perfect world he would have gotten fired & sentenced to prison for all the wrong he has done to inmates. But i am glad he is at least retiring instead of continuing his “job”. Is it fair? No but it is better than nothing

I agree!! This is a great start, we have to take the “good with the bad” as the saying goes. Looking forward to seeing some much needed change.

If he was convicted in federal court (Arpaio was) the President would probably pardon him too.

We shall see if change actually happens when his predecessor is named.

where all the money goes - Don't forget all those fines being paid by the state for violating court rulings, which is paid with our tax dollars.

Sounds like he got pushed out. I really wish we could get the truth-in-sentencing law repealed, downsize our prison population, and allocate the money to our public school system. Our poor children are getting subpar education. There 30-50 kids per classroom to 1 teacher!!

I do NOT want to change the topic of this thread from Ryan,
but I just have to say I guess we forgot to "knock on wood" about Arpaio.

Want to laugh about this, but also cry and swear some more (already done quite a bit already)

It will give the voters another chance to reject Arpaio. I can't believe that Arizonans want to deal with his vitriol again.
