South & Central America, Caribbean Prison & Criminal Justice TopicsDiscussions and Information about South and Central American and Caribbean Prisons, Jails, the Criminal Justice System, etc.
Cuba is the only country in the hemisphere that does not allow the International Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations access to its prisons, casting a veil of secrecy over its extensive prison system, reportedly one of the largest per capita in Latin America and the Caribbean. According to information gathered by the American Security Council Foundation it appears that over 20,000 political dissidents have been murdered under the Castro government.. Over a 40 year period they have jailed almost 500,000 political prisoners. Many of these prisoners were sent to labor camps for re-education. In 1959 under the Batista government there were 11 prisons in Cuba. Under Castro there are now over 300 prisons.

i had a friend of mines whos father was in a cuban prison for like 10 years and he said his cell was only big enough for him to lay down in and that he was fed a hand full of rice or bread a day and some water...hes said it was really bad there...
Lilboo - it must be as bad as it is in Brazil. When I saw pictures of what the prison my fiance is in looked like, the first word that came to my mind was "spa"
