Since your question is state specific, I've moved your thread so the people most familiar with the AL system can help. I wish you the best of luck!

My son has bee at ATEF for 9 months . He is being held there for the state . All of the prisons in Al. are over crowded . I have been there to visit many times . I have been told that the inmates that qualify to take the program and graduate will go to a work release program until they come up for parole . Then they are guaranteed to make parole . I have heard that the program is very strict and that they do not hesitate to write you up for the smallest thing .

is this an option for all inmates in Alabama? My Mike has life with parole. He already came up for parole once and was denied. His next is 7-15. Does anyone think this is possible.

My husband graduated Friday from ATEF and were waiting for him to go to WR now. It is super strict so please tell your men to be on their best behavior. They make up their own rules and you got to follow what they say. I was told as soon as they gradated this program they would get a parole cut or get paroled, but my husband was denied a parole cut and all we asked was for a 5 month cut. We're going to try again, but if not then we're praying when he goes up for parole in Sept hell get granted. They attend class Monday- Friday from 7 am until 9pm with breaks in between. They have house meetings at 7am and 5pm. They take SAP, anger management, fatherhood, and other classes that prepare them to become better men. Then they take GED classes if they haven't completed that and can take the class if they pass the pretest. Then they get certified in welding, computer class, and forklift. If anybody else has questions I can answer please let me know.
