DART program in North Carolina

I have mentioned this program to my fiance and was wondering if anyone out there had any loved ones that have or are participating in it and what they thought and if its a good program. thanks!

My son has participated in DART a couple of times for different amounts of time. DART or any other program only will work if the inmate is serious about it and not just using it to gain time.

NCDOC has a new program called "A New Direction". My son has done much better on it.

DART Cherry is near Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro NC but is not connected with Cherry Hospital. It is a 3-month residential program.

my son will be entering county next tuesday. at what point can he be assigned to one of these programs? at sentencing, or classification or only after he serves what i think is mandatory six months in medium custody? stay tuned for alot more questions after tuesday.
ps im pretty sure he would be eligible as far as his background with addictions

several years ago I was sent to the titled DART/cherry program which is located in Goldsboro,NC. This program consist of probationers and parolees. I went as a probationer. I was sent for test positive for smoking weed. I was there for 28 days. They had us in class for a solid 10 hours a day. Out of the 28 days only 3 hours dealt with pot smokers. the rest had to do with drinking. The staff there had very nasty attitudes. Their attitudes were 5 times more screwed up than any prison officer I have ever met.
After all these years I got my first DWI and they are going to violate my last probation sentence over it. I will have to serve 9 to 11 months. During the last part of my sentance they will try to send me to the DART/CHERRY program. That is not going to happen. I am going to refuse it and they will stick me in the hole (segragation) for that remaining time. I am not the type to ever knock any type of educational program or subtance abuse help program but the DART program is a sorry excuse for a program and is a waste of the NC taxpayers money. You cannot force feed anybody opinions like they do. the staff there, all of them, are supposed to be recovered addicts of some sort or another. It is really one sick program.

I dont have the answer but the last post was in 2011, so.....who knows.
I'd wonder if the whole covid-19 has put many/most programs on hold, I would think.

Yes the dart program exists in Goldsboro nc.
