Unhappy relocated

My friend is being relocated from FCC yazoo to another location due to an inncident there. Ive checked the website for the past 3 days and it still says the "IN TRANSIT" message. How long does it take?!!! I know im probably being impatient but im just worried about him.

Transfer can take anywhere from days to months, depending on a lot of factors. You can be impatient and you can worry but it's not going to speed things up. I'd suggest finding some activities to busy yourself while he's traveling. He may get to some inbetween places where he'll be able to write or call and those will be such nice surprises! Z.

Hi, to check and see if your message goes through, tap on your name, then go to statistics and your posts will be listed. you can also refresh the forum and see if it is there.

Grand Prairie is not a facility, it has BOP administrative designation staff, no inmates are there. Your son will be designated while he is at Irvington IAH, assuming his case is federal. Depending on where he gets designated, he may be sent to Oklahoma City for transfer or not. Whatever the BOP decides, you should not expect to be be notified in advance. There may be a period of time when you don't hear from your son while he is in transit.

Estimating how long this process will take is not easy. It could happen quickly or take several months. If he hasn't been transferred by mid-December, I think he will be there into January. The BOP slows down at the end of the year as staff takes time off for the holidays.

You might want to check out the post for setting up his commissary account via Western Union, so that when he is designated he can start making calls as soon as reaches his designation.

There is no rhyme or reason and the difficulty with the centralized system is that it will be more difficult for families to advocate for a transfer, which years ago used to be something we could do with the regional office. I do know that, if there is a judicial recommendation for a certain designation, the BOP is supposed to write the judge a letter outlining the reasons for not following it, if they don't follow it. And thanks to you all for the kind words. Z.
Is there a way to find out if the BOP wrote the letter for the reasons behind not following his recommendation? Does it get filed somewhere for our lawyers to see?

thanks so much.

The BOP no longer writes the judge a letter, and I don't think anybody else ever saw it other than the judge.

Zelda,
I read all the processing things you wrote about. If I am understanding this right you stated all federal inmates get processed thru grand prairie and go to OKC where he will be processed and be sent to a prison. But yesterday, (my son has been in livingston, texas for 2 weeks) he was sent to FCI low in beaumont. Is this where he will be. we havent heard from him since last monday. This is all so confusing and new to us.

Not everybody (by a long shot) goes through Oklahoma. It would just not make sense. Not that the BOP makes sense.

There's a good chance your boy will be at Beaumont for quite some time. The BOP can move anyone, anytime, for no reason at all, but there's a good chance your son will be there for a while, if not his whole sentence.

And you'll hear from him soon. This is the hardest part. Soon you'll find a "new normal" with regular letters and calls.

Please just hang in there.

As I posted you on 10/19, Grand Prairie is not a jail. it is a BOP administrative center, where staff make designation decisions. Don't know where you son is, but it could be awhile before you hear from him. The transfer period is very difficult because until you hear from him, you won't know. The only possibility, and it is slim, is for his lawyer to visit the US Marshals and see if they will tell him/her as a "favor".

If you have the money, a good post-conviction attorney can help you with designations and transfers.

My brother put in for a transfer 7 weeks ago. He has been told that the transfer has been submitted to Grand Prairie, so he asked me to call and see if I can get an update. When I call their number, there are only recorded messages. Does anyone have any advice on how to speak to a real, live designation agent? Or any other thing I might to speed the transfer process along? Our family is hoping that he'll have reached his new destination before the holidays. =P

It's hard to predict, but if he hasn't moved by Dec. 15 or so, he probably won't until after the new year.

Well my husband has 9 months and guess what after serving his first month in two different regional jails in virginia, he is now serving the rest of his sentence all the way in Ohio...they moved him there this past Monday...There is no way I can go visit him now especially with our son in school.

The judge asked us were would be closest for us and she put it in the report. But the BOP said they overrule the judge and don't care what was recommended. They just don't care how hard it is for us to visit our loved ones. Hopefully someday they will feel a hardship and injustice and now what it is like.

Default Designation Information

Hey All - does anyone know how I can speak to a live person at the designation center in Texas and if they will give me information on my bf's destination? He is being told in County that I can find out, but when I call I get a recording and they refer me to Marshall's office (which is no help).

Thanks!
