Is your Mother-In-Law a Horrible Cook?
I figured you guys could use a laugh or two.
Omgggggg My Mother in Law has some of the worst cooking I have ever tasted lol not everything but most of it. She made a bean salad today and it was the worse 8 bites I've taking. And she was standing right there so I had to eat it with a smile. Lol I try not to bebrude so I eat the stuff she put on my plate.

I've never had anything that his mom has cooked but his grandma is a pretty good cook. Although when we were kinda staying with her last year she would make stuff that I wouldn't like and when I wouldn't eat it she would get mad at me!
His mom loves to give me tea all the time when I come over even though I told her I don't like tea. Last time she did that I just said thank you and took some sips and then when she left the room I poured it out. I didn't want to be rude but I hate tea

Lol well when I wouldn't take some of the thing I didn't like that his grandma made he would get all pissy with me. So I would put some on my plate and then find a way to not have them realize that I didn't eat it.

I've been divorced for awhile but my mother in law had to be the worst cook in the world. She talked a great game. She was always talking about what a great cook she was.
I don't think she ever prepared a single dish that didn't include ground beef and cream of mushroom soup. The only thing that changed was the shape of the ground beef. Crumbled up and mixed with cream of mushroom and macaroni? That's "goulash". Ground beef patties with cream of mushroom as gravy? That's "salisbury steak". Ground beef and CM wrapped in a tortilla? That's an "enchilada".

Just claim some kind of dietary restriction or allergy.

I wouldn't know if my X mother in law was a good cook or not, I never ate at her house because they had roaches. My X husband use to get mad but oh well everybody wasn't raised around roaches and rats and eating in a home that has roaches crawling like they are apart of the guest list in the home was not in my vows.

She's not a "bad" cook but a rather limited one- She raised 3 kids on a very tight budget with a husband who is *not* an open-minded eater, so she makes some fab cassaroles and can do up a pot-luck dish like nobody's business but while everything she makes is very edible, it's also pretty mundane and does not include enough fresh veggies, which is hard for me because I was raised with health-food freaks and very adventurous eaters....I frequently offer to bring the salad if we're having dinner with hubby's folks

Yep, her cooking is bad to legendary status. Only she can make a packet mix cake come out like a flat cookie and taste of salt so bad that it burns your mouth.......aaaah what a birthday that was! The following year she forgot my birthday completely and I counted myself blessed.
When my boy wants to do baking with her we always tell him to make sure he's in charge - his cup cakes are yummy.

Blech!! Cream of mushroom soup is not allowed in my house. So there for sure won't be any food cooked with that crap as an ingredient. Yeah, your MIL's cooking was atrocious!
And to answer the op - I have no idea if she is a bad cook. I've never met the woman, so....
My Boo hasn't mentioned her cooking much, so I'm going to ask him when he calls.

Get a cookbook for kids- seriously- you're a little late to the cooking party but you still wanna start where most of us did, with really, really basic stuff- scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, pigs-in-a-blanket (Either the breakfast version or the much easier dinner ones that involve a hot dog wrapped in a crescent roll and baked), spaghetti..... if you can learn some basic techniques and skills before you "real" cooking lessons begin, you'll enjoy the learning more.... besides, homemade is cheaper and healthier than fast food or over-processed box meals.
For the beginner, Bisquik can be a major ally!

My ex mother in law was born and raised (as was my ex husband) on a working farm that provided all the vegetables, meat & poultry, fruit and dairy that fed the family daily. She made her own breads and my mouth waters remembering her baked goods.
She was the best cook and taught me the value of planning meals and reinventing left overs. She also taught me all the little tricks of substitution when you don't have that one item in your pantry.
Although fresh was her thing she also put up the best preserves, relishes and pickled veges. To this day my son will not eat store bought jam's and jellies.
Damn I miss that woman!!!

I would love love love to have my mil's cooking.
both of them. and sadly both of them are no longer around.
My first mil could make any thing taste good.
My current hubbys mom, was an awesome baker.
And she and her hub used to make some great dishes.
I miss BOTH my mils
I have been blessed with good *moms*
