I got a notification from vinelink that he was moved Thursday but ive been checking on doc website and he is still not in the system i wanted to get his din to write him also i have not heard from him. am a bit worried. how long before he is in the system he told me that when he left Monroe county he would go to Elmira any suggestion?
it could be a couple weeks before you hear from him. To get stamps and paper and a pen will take a while. It will may take a few days for him to get to Elmira. They often take inmates to a central location and then transport several of them at once. So it is possible he would spend the weekend in a different place. Also, when they first get to Elmira they are in isolation until they are processed. Then he has to submit a list of numbers to call and get them approved.
In the mean time, set up an account at offenderconnect.com in order to get phone calls. Also, send him a money order as soon as you get his DIN. Even if for $10 it will allow him to buy stamps and paper and pens and some hygiene products. You make the money order payable to him with his DIN number on it. You can put in a letter or send separately. They open all the mail and take out the money order and deposit it into his account. He will get a receipt for it.
Once he is at Elmira you can visit after 5 business days. You will have questions about that process so please read our sticky posts on visiting--especially how to dress an what to bring.
so I finally found him on nysdoc today after checking everyday since Thursday. so u can get visits after 5 day does it go by the date received date on the website cause it says day received 6/5 and Elmira is even/odd on weekend right?
Lots of info on visiting protocols in the Elmira Hub thread. Look at the sticky on Elmira Reception. And it is 5 Business days. (Monday through Friday)
