Default PSA Agency Accountibility Report 9-15-06 LOTS of Good Info

http://www.doc.sc.gov/research/accou...portfy2006.pdf

I encourage each and every one of you to read this report from start to finish. Lots of good info here. I had highlighted some of my concerns in a post but my pc timed out for some reason.

ya know, I think a lot of that report is a "crock". I know that it is supposed to be a reliable source of information but I also know what a time most people here have had with SCDC. I agree that there is a lot of good info in there but I just don't knwo. I have been trying to get my son to an outside Dr for the last year. It was approved 4 months ago and now they are supposedly waiting on transportation. I have paid the Dr. and also provided SCDC with fund in my son's Cooper account to pay the guards salaries and mileage on their van.

Each time I call it is always I need to speak to a different person and a different excuse as to why he hasn't been taken yet.

Also when I see that we are number 50 in daily costs per inmate, I want to be sick.

ETA: I saw that one of their inmate services is transportation to court and medical appointments. They failed to mention that they charge the inmates families for the mileage and guards salaries.

Please Barky, give me the lowdown and tell me what is good in there....I just stopped reading.

Barb

I guess I shouldn't have used the word "good." I should have used the word "interesting" or "insightful." My apologies. I do see your point. I have actually gotten assistance from the Medical Directors office. One thing I did that helped my son-in-law with his pre-existing condition is that I sent them a complete copy of his medical records when he was in R&E. Would it maybe help to do that now for your son?

Nope, I have tried that. I sent that when Joey was in R & E 10 years ago and also talked to each medical head at each prison he has been to. The only one that ever seemed interested was a dermatologist that was in Columbia and now that he is at Tyger River, they won't approve him to go to Columbia to see her. They say it is too far.

I will not give up. I think with the SCDC the "winner" is the one who gives up or gives in first. lol

I hate that for you! My son has actually been taken every year to an outside specialist to monitor his condition. I won't go into a lot of detail here, but he does have a couple of cadaver (donated human) parts in his body. Once a year he fills out a medical slip and was told last year that it was already on the books, so someone there has been doing a good job keeping up with him/his condition. For this, I am very thankful. He commented to me that he likes this specialist because he talks to "him" and not the guard who brings him.

Thumbs up ... I took your recommendation and read this

barky -
this: http://www.doc.sc.gov/research/accou...portfy2006.pdf - was a lot to injest - but as today (as most days at work) was extremely slow, I did indeed read this.

Maybe we should start a 'study group' - this all most went into 'overwelhm - I did find myself taking breaks as my ability to stay focused on some of what was there drifted at times. Some of the pages I printed.

I agree this is something to put on 'must read list'

Karol

Default $1.29 per day for Food?

I cannot beleive that they boast about only spending $1.29 per day, per inmate on food! Imagine Paris Hilton's outrage had she gone to a SCDC facility instead of LA County jail.

That comes out to $40.00 per month or approx $480.00 per year.
