Welcome to Prison Talk. If he doesn't have a bank account, some prisons (including federal) have limited program, usually savings, not checking accounts, available for prisoners. When I was inside, Bank of America set up a program with the bop to allow inmates to open a limited savings account where he could deposit the check. If that isn't available to him, try contacting different banks to learn if they are less restrictive than yours bank is.

my incarcerated son received a paper check , i had him sign and the bank will not deposit it in my account unless he is there with his state issued id , what am i going to do at this point it is just a piece of useless paper? please someone help me , i am so stressed out im about to have a stroke.
Annette
Back of check write; Deposit ONLY as long as he is on the account. If it is a third party check i.e. he isn’t on your account or his name isn’t on the account but you initiated a 3rd party check properly by him signing his name then Payable to the order of —— your name——
Federal checks may be limited with 3 rd party cashing so you may want to investigate that portion. just call the irs. Ask a generic question like: can i write “payable to” as a third party check on the stimulus check. call them and ask! wait times are huge so call forst thing in the morning.

Anyone have updated info on this? My fiance's prison never passed out paper work so I filled out the forms online and on paper for him before the deadlines in November. Many guys he is with got their $1200 payment from the first stimulus, but he still did not. Nothing to the prison and nothing in his bank account. I cant call the IRS because I am not his Power of Attorney. If anyone can help, please let me know. There isn't much information out there.

Mine didn't get his yet either. I believe it will come, but processing all these claims might take time.

I am worried I may have done something wrong or maybe the IRS never received the paperwork that I mailed. I try to go on the IRS website to check the status of it, and it says they cannot find him with what I enter. I hope you are right and that it will eventually come!

He did his at his facility. They gave him a paper recently with an address to write to. Im waiting until the website is up and running again to check.

Well your lucky cause allot of them didn't get anything yet and they said if you didn't receive any money by the end of December people will have to wait till they file taxes well see
I don't know but my husband & I get regular social security & ours was direct deposited to our bank account where the monthly checks deposit. Here's a link to an article about how people getting SSI can get their stimulus money. Scroll down about midway on the page to see the answer. https://www.ssa.gov/coronavirus/eip-cares-act/
Everyone I knew in prison that was receiving Social Security had their payments suspended during the time of their incarceration. Has this changed? I just wanted to mention this because the money may be owed back. One fellow I knew had to pay back almost $2,000 before he could get his payments restarted again after he was released because he received a couple before they were suspended.
The IRS has said on their website that they will activate soon the “Get my Payment” site where people can enter their direct deposit information. It worked pretty well last time to make sure you received the payment electronically instead of by mail.

They have to be processed by hand, which will take longer. Not worried. Mail room wouldn't have taken them. They have given them an address to inquire, so there would be huge law suit otherwise.
I havent heard of anyone who filed a paper claim recieving their check yet so I think they must be way behind in processing payments. Also inmates are not likely to file a tax return this year so I can't see why they they would get it when they file their tax return.
