Default Rhode Island DOC Community Corrections

The Community Corrections Program provides custody and program services for offenders who have been adjudicated by the courts and are residing in the community under correctional supervision. As such, it has a dual mandate of protecting the public and promoting the rehabilitation of offenders. Community Corrections consists of the following units:

Probation and Parole

Probation and Parole are community-based correctional programs which provide monitoring, counseling and supervision services to offenders sentenced by the Superior and District Courts or released early from the Adult Correctional Institutions by the Parole Board. Probation and Parole are correctional supervision units which allow the offender to remain within the community while fulfilling requirements which include accountability, responsible law-abiding behavior, and willingness to accept and make use of appropriate rehabilitative interventions. High-risk populations such as domestic abusers, sexual offenders and identified parolees in need of electronic monitoring are provided more structured, intensive supervision in the community.

Community Confinement

Community Confinement is a community-based program which provides a sentencing option used by District, Superior, and Family Courts for selected inmates who pose a manageable risk to the community and require structured supervision. All participants are electronically monitored to ensure compliance with approved daily schedules. Most offenders have substance abuse, shoplifting, driving on suspended license, or driving under the influence charges. Often, offenders are court ordered to treatment and these court orders are enforced by Community Confinement staff.
