Default TDCJ new phones Ad Seg

I have read that Ad Seg prisoners will not get the new phone privledges as GP will. Then my honey told me today that the Lt. said they will get to use the phones.

Right now in TX the inmates are only allowed 1 five minute call every 3 months! It's collect and cost about $30.

Does anyone have any more info on this?

First of all, the amount of time between calls is just crazy - Wow, I can't even imagine the toll on family and loved ones as well as the guys themselves. I put that comment in the nices way I could without obsenities being blasted on the site-lol. And $30.00 for a 5 minute call, That is beyond highway robbery. That's just crazy. Bad thing is, the state knows you'll pay it just to hear your loved ones voice so they take advantage of it. CT is expensive too but not that bad. And when I was at Fed, I got to make 15 min phone calls every day until I used my 300 minutes up. and I thought 300 minutes a month was bad. Wow, do I feel for you guys.

It was my understanding that the AD-Seg inmates would not have access to the phones. I hope your honey was not given some wrong info... Oh how I pray...

Thank you TXGURL. Thats what I told him, I even read it some where. He said a Lt. on his unit said they would but knowing TX they wont. It sucks because I live in WA and not only do we never get to see each other, we dont ever get to talk on the phone. He is a year into the mandatory 2 year investigation period for GRAD so in a couple of years maybe he'll be out in GP and we'll get contact visits and phone calls!

It's just so hard, but everything TDCJ puts us through and everything they put in our way, our love continues to grow stronger and it will prevail.

My guy went thru the 2 yr investigation and now has been waiting a year to get into the program it self. I know they just opened a 2nd program so hopefully my guy will get in there some time soon! He has spent 4 yrs in seg and if he does his whole sentence he will spend 7 yrs in seg his self. A total of 12 in the end because he was in seg the last time he was in. He is nervous about how he is going to feel in the free world since he was by him self all this time. I pray he gets into the GRAD program real soon! Good Luck to your honey too!

The rumours are sure running in SEG about the phones. Mine has been told everything from will have in rec yard to toting to cells. All we can do is wait and see, what will happen. But from the article does not look positive.

We all need to get a hold of Helga with the Texas Cure and mae some noise. They do a lot for inmates/families regarding issues in TDCJ

Here is the website: http://www.txcure.org/

my man has been in state jail for 12 months already. we have had only 3 calls the whole time he has been in there. they do not give you one monthly. that is a lie they give it when they get ready. the last one i had was july 2 on my birthday. it was for 5 minutes only and it cost 12 dollars. that one was worth it because i was having a bad day and he had perfect timing. whe has 3.5 months left and do not know if i will get a nother one. i see him weekly and write daily. that is what is helping me get through. i hope the get the pay phone soon. but who knows.

only a small percent of inmates get that one call every 90 days . My husband has been in for 6 years and he has only had 3 calls total. And one was actually a grievance call.

Hi and thank you for responding. Where are you getting your information? G1, G2, G3, & G4 "Offenders" might get the calls, but I was asking for Ad Seg specifically. Thank you for sharing.

As I said before, Texas should be advocating as much contact with the outside as possible. I know both CT and the feds advocate it as it helps inmates cope, as well as their families and it also helps them reintegrate when they get out. Fact is it's just wrong. What's with the 2 year investigation process? what's that for?

The mandatory 2 year investigation is required when applying for the G.R.A.D Program.
