Default Experience with tablets

What's been your loved ones experiences with tablets? I've read the latest news stories about hacking and the cost and so forth but what has been your loved ones thought of them in comparison to tv/radio and do you feel it's worth the expense.

Thank you.

My LO had one in Colorado and we loved it. We got hour long calls as many as we wanted. They were pricey about $9 for an hour but it was worth it for us. We could talk for hours and at a time that suited us, he could phone when he was in his cell and when they were on lock down we had the same contact.
He also had access to music and games.
The tablets have gone now due to security issues but I for one hope they come back.

I've got a friend that has one (Jpay). He really likes to be able to read and write emails in his cell in his own pace without the 15 minute cutoff and people trying to glance over his shoulder. The music is also a big plus for him.

My hubby likes it for these reasons also.

The general consensus I've heard from my penpals is that the tablets are really nice... if you can afford all the associated costs.

Being able to kick back and relax in the comfort of your cell, listening to music or playing video games, just to take a break from the everyday stress of being in prison.

If a prisoner has plenty of money on his books, it's a good way to escape from the prison drama and isolate and do your own time.

Did you/offender purchase the tablets or were they given to them as a part of the "free" offers I've read about?

In Colorado they were handed out free but all subscriptions to music , games, messages and calls had to be paid for.

Default The expense and effect of e-technology

This is what concerns me:

Will the availability of hard copy access to texts and books become limited?

The expense of the media.

PA prisons sell inmates eBooks. They can be expensive.

I have a question about the Tablets, my son is in FEDs so he won’t be getting one, but wouldn’t it be nice for your older loved ones or ones with bad eyesight to have the ability to make the fonts larger? Do those tablets have that function ?
