Default MH meds denied- anyone else?

From my understanding, tdcj and county jails have been refusing inmates their psy meds... My bf was on meds before he was arrested, county took him off meds and tdcj has conveniently lost his diagnosis and denied him his meds. Even staff in county, tdcj and now a treatment center are saying there is nothing they can do to grt him pay meds. I know he isnt the only one- anyone else experience this?

If he was being treated by a provider on the outs, see if you can't get those records and send them in directly to the prison yourself. You'll probably need signed HIPAA release forms from him, both for the prison and any outside providers. But if you can prove at least what medications he was taking, as per his chart just before he was arrested, you should be able to get the prison to comply. Unless those medications aren't listed on their formulary or something, in which case he should at least be evaluated by a prison psychiatrist to see what substitutes/alternatives might be available, if he has an official diagnosis.

Unfortunately a lot of these meds are in high demand and some inmates sell them instead of taking them. Not offering them is what some prisons do to curb that.

Can't get away with that here in Idaho. Except for KOPs, most prescription meds (especially psych meds) have to be taken by the individual dose, and the medical staff watches you take it, makes you go "AWW!" with your mouth wide open to make sure you aren't cheeking them when you swallow.
