Question Code to dial to UK from USA??

Hey Brits

A friend called me from America last night (not in prison) but he said he had to prefix even the country code with 011 and then do the 0044 and then my code etc. I thought it was only ever 00 44 to get to UK on the phone. I have given my # out to a friend in prison and would appreciate anyone letting me know what code/prefix he would need to call me in UK.

Thanks

When I call from the US to France, I dial 011 33. 011 is the international access code and 33 France code. So to call you he should dial 011 44. If your area code starts with a 0 he must NOT dial the 0.

Example:

My home phone # is: 01 42 00 XX XX

When I call from the US I dial:

011 33 1 42 00 XX XX

Hope that makes sense.

Phil

You dial 01144 thats the international code, if you are in London with the # which begins 020 you DON'T dial the 0 so 0114420
I hope it helps

Ok, here I am again with this thread! My friend who wants to put me on his list for this March submitted a request to fldoc to ask about the code (this was before I got the info here from you guys) and the response fldoc has given him is to put 01 and not 011 - so does that mean they will make him put 01 44 down even though we know it should be 011?? I will go crazy if March rolls around and he can't call just becuase the code was wrong......

liltoomean

Is your friend in a state or fed prison ??? Since you mention FLDOC, I guess is in state.

How come they let him call you overseas ??? I just don't get it, FLDOC doesn't allow overseas phone calls !!! This 01 44 thing won't work, we tried about everything with Joey.

Phil, He's in a state prison - at SFRC right now, but soon to be moved. I have no idea what is going on - I have here an inmate request form and my friend is asking whether the code should be 01144 or 0144 and the response is simply 01, which we know is wrong.... Also, I know he calls a friend in Holland and has done so many times through the regular phone system, so what's up with fldoc and why couldn't you call Joey this way??

FLDOC prison phone system is monitored by MCI and they can NOT dial more than 10 digits. This is a computerized system. To call overseas, they must dial more than 10 digits. For instance to call me he must dial:

011 33 1 42 00 XX XX which is 14 digits, and even with the 01 code instead of 011, it's still 13 digits.

Honestly, I really don't know how he could call someone in Holland. Are you sure this person didn't have a phone line with PCO or something similar ???

Also did he ask you for a bill ?? FLDOC requests a phone bill to approve a # on an inmate's phone list.

Phil, the form I have here has 'MCI' in the corner. He clearly states he wants to call me, that I live in England and gives my full phone #. I am happy to fax/send you a copy of this if you want to see it or if it might help you with your calls.
He gave me the email address of this friend in Holland but I haven't got a response yet to be able to ask how it was done. All I know is that he calls her there and I know it is via the regualar system as when I mentioned PCO and various other providers, he said he has never used them or had to use them, that he knows several others who also call Europe from the regular Florida phone system.....
No, he hasn't asked for a phone bill....should I send one?

I have a friend here in England who is married to an inmate at Raiford. He call's her twice a week, but it has to be a collect call.
I don't know if he goes through a different procedure,or if he has to go to his case worker's office or whatever, but he call's her all the time.

I'll see if I can find out how he does it.

Thanks richie's girl. Hopefully he will be able to call me come March as I've gone through Prison Calls online now and as long as I can get it all set up before March it should be ok. I would be interested to know though how your friend's husband calls her.
