Sometimes I just sign my name. Sometimes it's a little smiley face and my name. And with my Spanish speaking penpal I sign, 'como siempre'...which has now become a thing because apparently he signs his letters to his fam with 'siempre'.

I have to admit, though. When I write a letter it can take me several days of toting around the notebook (easy to do as a student). So there are frequent stops and starts. "Gotta run! Write more later" "Must. Sleep. 'Night" "I'm back!" all over the place.

I rarely sign off. We write to each other as if in chapters. We just end with a thought. When we email, we just put our first initials. I have no idea why.

Usually I finish my thoughts in the last paragraph and sign my first name. I guess I've never really put much thought into it.

When I first started writing to my pen friends I said
"with all good wishes"
That turned to love or much love after I had been writing to them for a year or do.

One of my pen friends always said "sincerely" which initially I thought was a bit formal but I think it was about showing respect as I was 15 yrs older than him.
The others
:
Your friend to the end
Love
Always

Its usually different; sometimes it's
Until next time.....
Talk later,
Alright, I'm signing off,
Cheers,
Or I end with a quote that kinda fits with the theme of that letter. Ex: My PP said he was going crazy, so my quote for that letter was "ďI became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.Ē Edgar Allen Poe
He likes it

Depends on my mood and the content of the letter..

Recently though I've had a thing with "love" and "thinking of you" haha I must have had a bang to the head recently because it's so unlike me..

Sometimes, it is a simple "Later," while most times, it is "take care" - though there have been "take good care" or "take good care of yourself" used a few times. Pp's first sign off to me was "respectfully," and is now consistently "take care."

Not very original, but as I know how much my pp works at flying under the radar and stay away from the drama, it is my best thing to say. I mean, I can't really say "be good and watch your back." (Even though I am old enough to be his father -aacckk!)

I usually end my letters with just "Take care". Sometimes I add "Now seriously dude, I really mean it! Take care of yourself, you hear me?" just because I know it'll evoke a slight grin...

For general pen pals, I always end my letters the same way I end pretty much every form of communication, outside formal letters:

My standard, non business sign off is

Take care, keep smiling
hugs, Naomi with a under it and the dot on the I is a love heart!

I have messed up a couple of times and sent out business letters with hugs on them and got thanked by the people who got it, they said it made them smile, not enough to do what I wanted usually though bahahaha

Hugs

I sign "You are loved."

When we talk on the phone, we say "I love you" but we both mean it in a platonic and familial way.

So far it's "take care," but it's early in the relationship and we've only written a few letters back and forth. I can see myself signing "love" at some point if we get to be close enough friends. It's a platonic relationship so we'd have to be almost like brother and sister for me to do that.

I usually put "Take Care", but now I put "Always"
My pen pal usually writes "Sincerely" but in his last letter he put "Always".

I'm missing two other options which I mostly use: "I miss you" and "Thinking of you"

That's endearing, I'm gonna use that!

I usually end my letters with "your friend" or "take care" if we're early in the relationship, but when we get closer I end with "big hugs" and a lot of smiley faces or in my mothertongue "un abbraccio"/"sempre"/"con affetto".

Today, I've received a letter from my pen pal.
Now, he signs "Con Amore".

Does anybody know what it means ?
I don't speak Spanish or Italian

Usually some variation of:

Quote:
I wish you all the best, hope to hear from you soon.

Yours truly,
I've had people write back and end their letters with "all my love" after one intro letter. So I guess people aren't too caeful with their word choices, its just something they write out of habit.
