90 days in jail doesn't seem quite long enough. I think she should have been sentenced to the same amount of time the "group" would have been sentenced to. One reason there are so many sex offenders are because of false charges like this. Look at the Duke case, that woman walked.

Karyn Galila was handcuffed and taken into custody immediately Tuesday after being sentenced to 90 days in jail for filing a false police report.
The 24-year-old Galila had claimed last summer that had been sexually assaulted at gunpoint by a group of men after her car had supposedly broken down in Foster City.

False accusers should definitely face the penalty that the accused would have been looking at- that would indeed cut down on a lot of crap

Ditto. I have kept a story from a couple of years ago. A local man was accused of a sexual crime. He spent 10 years in prison before the word got out that the women had lied. Nothing happened to her. Absolutely nothing.

My son has been in prison for over 5 years because of false accusations and still has 4 1/2 years to go.

While he holds no animosity towards his "accusers", their mother is another story.

I believe that filing a false police report is only a misdemeanor (though it should be a felony in cases such as this - IMO), but she is now open for civil action should those she accused want to go that route.

Women like this make me ill.

That's a good point. Maybe they should change this law (why not, they change all the others) to read that a false charge that would result as a misdemeanor will be dealt as a misdemeanor, a false charge that would result in a felony charge will be dealt as a felony?

I agree anyone making a false charge to gain a conviction or that results in a conviction should do the same time...
It should be a law and the district attorney prosecution the case should receive the same because nine times out of ten they know its false...
Maybe if they were held accountable for their actions all these people doing prison time or on death row that are innocent would not be there. When any agency has that much power it always get abused, there has to be checks and balances. These people have absolutely none, they do as they please.

I just heard it's now a felony to read or post threads on Prison Talk. It states it has been proven that too much information shared by the public is causing unease and disgruntlement among the families and friends of inmates which the governor strongly feels would lead to the safety of the general public. An unnamed sourse has heard of a potiental revolution protesting the legal system by "threating" another Boston Tea Pary - as their forefathers had done in 1773. As most readers know, this act lead to the fuse that led directly to the explosion of American independence was lit.

When an innocent person goes to jail because of a false report, many given by women angry and their boyfriends, I have a problem with that. The harm they cause someone is beyond measure.

And I've heard than when the woman starts feeling guilty and recants her story, they will prosecute anyway. They figure the woman was co-erced into recanting. Crazy, huh?

I think people who file false reports with the police dept SHOULD do jail time. And be on a website for all the public to see, and have to register as a liar for the rest of their lives, include it on any job application, rental application, etc.
