Default Cuomo Looks To Free Old Sick Inmates

https://nypost.com/2018/01/17/cuomo-...to-save-money/

New York state is spending so much money on medical care for older inmates that Gov. Cuomo said it’s time to let ’em loose — potentially saving taxpayers millions of dollars.

Cuomo wants to set up a “geriatric parole” program for prisoners 55 and older who suffer from a “chronic, serious condition, disease, syndrome or infirmity” and can’t take care of themselves.

Let's hope they turn them loose to family and friends who are capable of taking care of them, or are able to get them into appropriate care facilities. Too often these programs just release people with no where to go, no continuity of care, no services, no insurance, and no way of getting what they need.

Don't think there isn't money to be made. This Gov does no philanthropic work. Whether regular parole (discretionary releases have increased hugely in the last 3 months), or medical parole, these folks are then going to be part of the money making substance abuse, weapons, dv or any post release programs that can be billed to Medicaid.
Its just smoke and mirrors, some folks don't know how to function healthy, so now you put some guy in the midst of chemo out to the street, he goes into hospital, bing! Medicaid billers get rich.
For some, sadly, there is "family" in jail, there is community.
Like said above, I hope attention is paid.

I see Cuomo's recent actions as mere stage setting for a run at the White House. He's now pushing for a study on legalizing marijuana for recreational use. He recently issued numerous pardons and commutations. He's recently called for reform in discovery laws for criminal proceedings. And now he's proposing releasing elderly inmates. It really IS smoke and mirrors: he's pandering to the liberal minorities who elected him governor.

And in my opinion, a horrible governor he is. Nothing at all like his father Mario who did a damn good job running NY.

There is a huge budget deficit that needs to be closed. State also stands to lose money from the feds and new tax bill. Watching to see how all this plays out.

Legalization of marijuana is for revenue.

Absolutely. And so are many of Cuomo's other shenanigans.

Regardless, there is no denying that he has his sights set on the White House and that is the primary motivation to his recent actions.
