Default I can totally relate

He took to stealing and forging checks--probably b/c 1) he wasn't thinking clearly BECAUSE of the meth and 2) to get money the only way he knew how FOR the meth.

After doing time in jail first, he got clean. After being out on probation though, they picked him up again for breaking into someplace else. While he technically had not stolen anything YET he might have had he not been caught. I ws not "with" him at this time but I've seen his arrest pix and I can only assume he was back on it (lost so much weight, dead eyes, etc). He got sent down on his original charges to do prison time. He's now been there about 2 1/2-3 years. We are no longer in contact--I can only pray that he's finally done of it once and for all upon his release but it's all in who they decide to associate with, etc when they're out again.

You know, the first time, when he went to jail, my little heart was so sad at not seeing him, etc but I have to say I was relieved b/c I felt it at least got him off the streets for awhile--I actually always dreaded getting the "they found him dead in an alley" or at the "budget suites" call instead....I'm sure alot of people on here can relate to that.

I actually slept great the night I got the "call" that he was in jail just knowing where he was sleeping that night and it's awful to say but I can leave my purse out and not worry it's going to be emptied while I sleep but I'm sure others can relate to that too...

He has always had a drug problem and always did anything he was able to get his hands on, meth, coke, herion, oxys, alcohol, etc. But He was shooting up ten or more oxy 80s a day, three and four at one time and was robbing to support his habit. The day he got arrested he stole two very expensive rings one from sears and one from jcpenny. They chased him and when they finally caught him he had a bag of 1000 needles. We thank God everyday for saving his life cause if not for getting caught he would be dead

YES! He was so strung out on crack! I hate it! I wish it could all disappear, especially for the ones struggling. What good does it do? Besides put the ones we love in jail/prison & make us broke!

And another thing, with the laying dead on streets or whatever, when he went away, I knew he'd have a place to eat, shower, and sleep! Instead of being on the streets.

Yes he was high when he did what he did he had been trying to fight it for months but he couldnt control his emotions on drugs. We always thought he would go down for selling but no he just let his anger take control. still waiting for sentencing its only been 2 weeks but we have 3 more to go until his court. I dont know how I am gonna make it through this.

you can. take it one day at a time, when you find out his release date you'll be devastated ( we hate to be separated for even a minute) then you'll start the countdown. your in the hardest stage right now.... just one day at a time hunny.

I didn't read all the post because its way too long. And I didn't vote because none of the answers applied. Yes everytime he committed a crime he is always messed up. He made the choice to take the drugs. We all know by education what drugs and alcohol does to you if you choose to take it. It does cloud his judgement. I don't think the drugs *made* him do it. We all know what is right and wrong unless you are mentally incompetent.

I agree.. however drugs and/or alcohol throw out logic and reasoning hense the phrase one track mind.. a true addict on their drug is mentally brainwashed and controlled by the drug

But is it really an excuse ? When they refuse to admit they have a problem, refuse to get help once it comes to light.. it's always, I'll go tomorrow, I'll go Monday until they're in prison & oh so sorry & all the I'll never touch it again ?

Everything my BF did was to chase the high or the bag. The reason he got caught. ( that was before i knew him) After being together for awile and having a daughter together he started using crack again. I actually turned him in to his PO because he was using again, refusing to go report and starting to get violent towards me for saying no. Saying he could stop and he didn't want to miss our daughter growing up(she is one in a couple of days!) Well i knew better by this time around (trust me i know i did a lot i shouldn't have, but i was to scared to say no, i didn't want anything to happen to my daughter.) He's not going back to prison, instead into a re-entry program.

yup..
He was definitely at a rough place...and when this situation came about.. he was beyond gone
But he says this happened for a reason and needed to, to get him away from & to gain more control of his life & become aware of his surroundings.. he is a better stronger wiser man today then he was over 4 yrs ago... without the downfall he may have ended up in worse situation or dead

My man is a alcohol addict. And he was drunk when he fled the cops. He changed now. Alcohol Is still going to be a problem but we are doing meetings and celebrate recovery which is Christian based and deals with addicts. It's helped alot. he is now in a hwh where the temptation is great but we will get thru it. He tells me that he is glad he ended up there to save himself and our family. And grow in his faith.

Would also be great if we can break it down into Alcohol and Drugs, I'm sure most will say drugs, and put weed as the top "put you in jail for nothing" reason

He was really addicted to pills, would get really sick if he didnt have them, so he was selling them to and got caught on wire and got charged with dealing in a controlled substance. Got sentenced 4 years do 2. 1 year down!

Before I type what my boyfriend got I would like to point out I'm in Canada , and charges and drug charges are a lot less time then in the USA.
My boyfriend has over 40 convicted charges , at least half are drugs , he started using at 13. He has been clean for 25 months now . He's been in jail for the last 10 .
He was on drugs when these charges happened , he got sentenced 13 months and had to do 10 months .

Trafficking cocaine
Trafficking oxy cotton
Trafficking marijuana
Conspiracy x3
Breach of probation x3
Possession of marijuana
Possession of oxy cotton

He gets out in two weeks today.
