Default Kentucky Legal Inquiries: Inmates can dial 166 from Securus phone in prison

For anyone looking for anything pro se in the post-conviction area like divorce, ineffective assistance of counsel claims (11.42), 60.02 motions, post conviction appeals, parole, jail credit, etc., have your LO call Department of Public Advocacy in Frankfort and ask for the Legal Inquiry voicemail. All the inmate has to do is dial 166 from a Securis phone at the prison. It's a free call for them to leave their name, inmate number and institution and what information they are requesting. We'll mail the appropriate requested packet to them within 2 weeks.

Or they can write a letter if they feel they need to explain more to:

DPA
Legal Inquiries
100 Fair Oaks Lane Suite 301
Frankfort KY 40601

I'm in the process of sending updated packets to each prison library, but they can also call us and we'll send them.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation with a loved one whose mental illness has impacted their conviction. My cousin has had over 4 DUIs and they allowed him to have his learner's permit again when he got out on parole two months ago. He started drinking right away, was having wild manic mood swings and thankfully is now in jail where he can't harm anyone. His parole officer thought he was just fine during his five minute visits once a month when clearly he wasn't. He was applying for jobs that were inappropriate, making wild plans, not attending AA, having dental work and being treated with oxycontin, not living where he was supposed to be...

He was being evaluated for his mental health and was supposed to see a second doctor right before his arrest. He's 60 yrs old. Is there any hope for someone like this to ever see the outside world again? His mother was in and out of a mental institution so there is a strong family history to support his diagnosis.

I'm sorry chintath, but none of us can answer that. If he has an attorney, that person may be able to assist.
