Default Federal program: Bonding for “at-risk,” hard-to-place job seekers

I read somewhere, quite awhile ago, about a bond that can be obtained upon parole that ex-inmates can get that covers an employer should there be a problem once hired, and therefore makes the parolee more employable. Does anyone know anything about this, if it is still available and where to find information? Thank you!

I believe you're talking about the following Federal program:

Quote:
The U.S. Department of Labor established The Federal Bonding Program in 1966 to provide Fidelity Bonds for “at-risk,” hard-to-place job seekers. The bonds cover the first six months of employment at no cost to the job applicant or the employer.

There is also a federal tax credit of $2400.00 for hiring a felon during their first year of release (as long as it remains in the new tax law, which even the IRS doesn't understand yet). Here's the link to a Business Insider article.

Yes, its called "Work Opportunity Tax Credit." The necessary forms for those employers that hire felons are on the IRS website:

There is/was a link on the Texas Workforce Commission website, which is likely what the OP was asking about since they are dealing with someone in Texas.
