Pennsylvania Visitation, Prison Phones, Packages & MailTopics / Information relating to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and local / county Jail visitation, phone calls, mail, inmate care packages, etc.
Hello,Im hoping to visit my friend on DR in SCI Muncy,Pennsylvania in July. I have written a letter to the Superintendant requesting a special visit 2 weeks ago but have not heard back yet.I have also asked my friend to put me on her visitation list. Its really tricky trying to arrange this from England so would be grateful for any info as to whether im doing the right things!! Is there an email address for the prison it would make things so much easier-I cant find one!! Does anyone have any useful info on special visits and how long they take to arrange. When I phoned the prison I was told there is no maximum time to request so I have asked for a whole week, all day-I know I wont get all this so what is realistic to get approval for. Also is there a train station near SCI Muncy as I hope to come down by train after the Washington DP event.
ps England says NO MORE DEATH PENALTY.
Hi and welcome to PTO!
Your friend has to fill out a request to have special vists, they won't approve any until you are on her visiting list.
Once you are on her list, she can write to her counsellor and request a special visit and they will approve or deny it, then it will go to the PRC committee for the same, then on to the superintendents office for final approval.
I've never been to Muncy, but have a dear old friend in Graterford on death row and have been many, many times.
if they are anything like Graterford, they won't approve the visits until June, it's usually a month or so before the visits are due to take place, which makes it difficult to arrange flights, hotel etc.
I hope it all goes well and you enjoy your visits.
Also, generally, they are allowed one visit for each Sunday in the month, so in July, there are 5, so in theory, if she hasn't already had any visits that month, she could ask for 5 days to see you.
I find it so hard though because visitors are allowed to use the bathroom, get food and drinks, but inmates are not. Also, since it is all non contact, you have to sit and talk through a phone and have a glass window between you, it's very emotionally draining, but fulfilling at the same time.
