Default FCI Jesup

we went to see our son at the fci jesup satellite low facility. it was our first visit and it was not at all what i expected. the guard at the door was friendly, patient as he took us through the process of signing in and getting searched and stuff. he explained the rules, he spoke pleasantly. we weren't on one list and he took the time to look on another one until he found us. we were escorted to the next building by another guard who was also friendly and pleasant. we went to the visiting area which was pretty large and there was an outside pavillion sort of place with large tables and benches. there was a tv room for children. it was watched over by a couple more guards who were very nice and laid back they sat in the front of the room and didn't wander between the tables or people or anything intrusive, if someone did something wrong they were asked to stop, but no threats or attitudes. we had a 6 hour visit, we hugged and laughed and kissed, we even acted silly at times. we spent a lot of money in the vending machines, but everyone was patient and waited turns. I saw people kissing and hugging their wives and children. they sat close and talked and touched. but no one, not the inmates, visitors, guards. no one crossed the line. all the women were dressed like ladies, but no dresses, slacks and blouses only, no cleavage, decent underwear, no one tried to stretch the rules, cause it was obvious even to us first timers that no one wanted to mess it up for anyone else. maybe cause it is low security, or maybe we caught it on a good day, but I think the people who worked there went out of their way to be kind. we are told there is a library, weights, pool tables, basketball courts, running tracks, vocational, church. all these things are available to those who don't mess up. all the inmates wore pressed uniforms that looked like tan army clothes. it was not unpleasant. visiting a loved on in prison can never be a really happy time but our visit was a good one. i didn't cry until we got to the car. i guess then all the barbed wire and stuff finally hit home. I appreciated the fact that they were professional and kind people that worked there. they were shown a great deal of respect, and they earned it. thanks for listening.

Thanks for sharing some of your experience with us here on PTO.
There are many employees who do their jobs and respect those around them, I've met a few or more myself. It's great you gave them props here...

Default FPC Bennettsville

I would like to share my experiences while visiting my fiance in the new FPC in Bennettsville, SC. I visited for three weeks in a row, literally two weeks after the inmates were transferred from Eglin by way of Yazoo City. I was treated with complete kindness and respect. Compared to Eglin, the visiting room is very tiny with no vending machines...as of two weeks ago. If anyone has a loved one there, and would like to PM me for directions or for more info, I will be happy to assist. This place is not easy to find at all. I have the direct phone number that wasn't posted on the BOP list as well. In fact, the address listed on the BOP website is incorrect.

OH, I so didn't think of that. the way there is straight up 95 from florida to the exit marked jesup, i think it is 45 0r maybe 25, any way you just cannot miss it. turn west and go to the middle of nowhere. to 301 south. there is a mikki d's on the corner. she will give you change cause the vends at the prison sometimes get full. what a sweetie, i mean they know why you are there. turn south on 301 and it hits the place just a few miles down. be decent, follow the few rules and no hassles. we are going up again on the 10th. I miss him so. some of the inmates got their pictures taken, but we didn't have it set up right. maybe next time. we got to visit for hours. it was so hard to leave, i cried all the way back to florida. but he is safe. and has a chance to do something. hes off drugs. now, if we can just get him home before 2012. 10 years, for 10 grams and 1 gun. not together. just on the same property. what a waste. just write to him and make him laugh. hes a great kid. thanks
bretts mom. and proud.

I am fairly new to PTO but I was just checking out all the posts for JESUP since that is were my ex /kids father is . He has been there for 8years now he also has a 2012 release date though he says even though there is no parole he can qualify to get out in 4 more years with some drug course and then counting the time in the halfway house. I agree it is probably the most pleasent visitation you could probably have, everyone is very friendly and polite and I was amazed the first few times I went ot visit just how much interaction you were allowed to have and like you said as long as you don't push it the guards aren't out to give you any trouble either. The town is pretty small but it's not a real ugly drive and the businsess in town are resonable and nice.
