Question Custody Status...

Hello -

Does anyone know how long it takes to show an inmate "in custody" on the BOP site? I dropped my sister off at Coleman today and I need to send her some money but it is showing that she is not in bop custody. I still want to send the money. Will this status stop her from getting it?

I would wait until the name of the facility appears next to her name then wire her the money. It takes a day or two for the site to update. Just keep checking.

If she has been assigned a bop inmate number, (XXXXX-XXX) you can send her money by either Western Union or by mail to Des Moines, IA. The money will be available to her as soon as she is allowed to use it and will follow her wherever she goes. If you mail the money, anything except a US Postal money order results in a 15 day hold on the funds. Here is a link to the bop "inmate money" rules.
