Default Switching from medium to low, but still using medium rules?

Hey everyone.. we were part of the mass BOP shakeup that went on last month and he got transferred from Waseca (low) to Englewood which changed from medium to low.

Now that he is there, it is classified as a low security but he said they are still following a lot of the rules intended for a medium security. For example, they are not permitted to seal their own outgoing mail.

Has anyone been through a security level change? Does this eventually change so that all the rules are for a low security or are we stuck with the medium policies?

Contrary to what most believe, every low is not run in the same manner. The low I was in did not allow sealed mail as well as several other things typical to low's

Prisons can do whatever they feel they need to do in order to maintain the security of the prison. I was in a camp for over three years and we actually had 10 minute moves for three months!!!

There was also a continual loss of priviledges as time went by. We originally could stay out of the units until 11:30 pm each night, and eventually (because of all the introduction of contraband), that got scaled back to 10pm.

Our camp used to allow visitors to walk around the camp with the inmate (couldn't go into the units), but that got cancelled, and now there is a fence around the outside visiting area). We used to be able to order in food on Friday and Saturday, no more, etc., etc., etc.

So, while they may eventually loosen up, there is nothing that requires them to do so.

Hi, according to the warden, they will gradually phase it from a medium to a low. It currently still has 125 medium prisoners there and until they get out (3-6 mo) it will continue to be run as a medium. My son loves all the programs they have, but the visiting room needs to be turned into the health dept.
