Hello TxYellowRose, your post caught my eye, as my son too is in an FCI. He was in one in our home state of S.C. but got the chance to move to a new one in WV when it was 1st opened a couple of years ago. They took almost all of his adult life away from him with a maximum 15 yr. sentence, which is ridiculous. I agree that he had to do some time but he didn't even deserve 1/2 as much as he got. He's not a criminal type kid at all, just got caught with drugs after missing 3 out of 12 probation appointments, while on probation for a small pot charge. A guy that he was with had a gun and they charged 3 people for illegal possession of the same firearm. Made no sense to me, but without a LOT of $$ no one has a chance at getting a criminal attorney. This new FCI was built for 1200 but has between 1600-1800 already. He enjoyed the chance to get some peace and a little quiet when he first got there, but now it's loud and just like the previous one he was in. He had hoped for a better job at this new place, but supposedly the guards were intimidated by some of the inmates in most of the jobs, and he couldn't stand being around that. Well, I just wanted to say hello to another mother who I'm sure misses her son as much as I do, which is daily heartbreak. Drop me a line back if you want to. I used to try to get on this site but always seemed to post my things in the wrong places. I feel the site is rather hard to find the way around. Know that you're not alone, and I hope your son is getting out sooner than mine. I'll support him and miss him until he's home, but the waiting is horrible. Hang in there and pray for our sons.

Do you mind telling me what a 'med' facility is? Also, how do I know if a FCI is a medium FCO or not? Thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

It's the security level of the prison; minimum (FPC), low or medium (FCI), high (USP) or super high (admax). There are also many other bop three initial designations for "administrative" prisons like medical centers, detention centers, whatever.

When you know where he is going, the bop facility locator will tell you what security level it is classified at.

Naturally, the bop likes to confuse things, so they have been known to change high security USPs to medium security prisons (Leavenworth and Atlanta are two of them). The difference in the classification of a prison determines the level of restrictions the inmates are kept under there.

My ❤just got sent to Oklahoma FTC on Monday after spending 22 months in the county jail....it's bittersweet gonna miss our (no contact)weekly visits. Hated not being able to touch him but loved seeing him..but now it's like our journey is really beginning... Loving the emails, he seems happier (more upbeat) which makes me feel good... But now praying he goes within the 500 miles...waiting to get approved and saving money for a trip....and waiting for 2019.....
No one (in my family) understands what I'm going thru so I'm blessed to have this website to be able to express myself and people really understand...... Jus taking day by day and can't wait for all this to end........

My husband just got to FCI Terre Haute from CCA Leavenworth. The only reason why I know he is there is because I looked him up on the inmate locator. But he has been at Terre Haute for 4 days now and he STILL hasn't called me. I put money on his books so I know that that isn't the reason. Is there some kind of "orientation" or a period of time in the beginning of their stay that they can't use the phones?? please let me know....im going crazy

My son is in FCI McDowell in Welch, WV, but it's not on the list at the top of the page. It's been opened since the end of late 2011, and he went there in Jan 2012. He transferred there from FCI Williamsburg in our state of S.C., which I now think was a mistake, but too late at this point.

My guy is in okc also heading up Forrest city but I think the low... I'm excited he will be only like 5 hours from me. How far will u have to drive?

FCI Herlong holds my heart

My son just self surrendered to FCI Sheridan, Oregon.
He was sentenced to 3 years for possession with intent to deliver Meth 5 grams. He also received +2 points for a gun enhancement being that there was a shot gun in the back of the car.
He has requested to apply for the RADAP program and placed on a waiting list.
My question is with classification.
He tells me that they offer RDAP at both the medium security FCI where he is at and at the minimum security satellite camp next door.
Because he self surrendered 10 days ago to FCI and is processing in, will he stay in medium security and go through RDAP there or will he be transferred to the minimum security camp (preferably) and be able to go through RDAP there?
He has not been in prison before and his PSI shows a history of drug and alcohol use. Does anyone have an idea, if they are determining is security classification now or was that figured before he got to this point.
It is in God's hands, but I hope he has a chance still of going to the minimum security camp next door.

My son is at Forrest City Medium and I haven't heard from him in about 3 days. He usually writes me back within a day of me writing or calls me but no news since Thursday. I don't know if the facility is on lockdown or he is in the SHU.
