I have a penpal in Herlong ,and just recently I was asked to send some of my drawings so he could put them together with some of his own to make a collage that he could send back to me.But I got them all back in the post on friday as contraband ,as my celtic art was thought to be 'tattoo designs'!!Heck, there were drawings of excalibur and Cornwall's patron saint and a celtic war horse!!..Very annoying.
Anyway,my fiance's cousin is in Med 1 Victorville.
Depending upon what was said in any correspondence about the drawings and how much it matters to you, I'd say that's an issue that he could file for a review about. Without any evidence of any intention of using it for tatoos and without him having any equipment to make tatoos, the BOP should not be censoring the content of artwork if it's within their rules about nudity, etc. Z.
Thank-you once again Z for your wise words..Yes,I think I will ask him to appeal about this because as you know most celtic art has some form of knotwork or spirals which are also popular designs for tattoos. But since it is my heritage and my penpal is trying to learn as much as he can about my ancestors and heritage, this would more or less stop me from sharing anything with him!..In my accompanying letter, the reference I made to them was that since I wasn't sure what sort of drawings he wanted for his collage I just sent some that decribed a couple of stories that I told him in the letter and threw in some knotwork designs and a particularly nice celtic cross that I had done some time ago!All within the guidelines of decency/nudity etc...Unless you count the half naked horse!!
P.S. I amazed that they even got back to me, because the envelope was addressed by someone with literacy problems!!
USP Lompoc is a Medium, was a high USP and changed to a Medium two years ago. FCI Lompoc is a low. My Husband was there for the last year (USP) ... and I know it well..
So the USP Lompoc should be on the Medium list, although most of the staff still don't know that it changed..
I have a close friend in F.C.I Allenwood med he has been there for 5 years or so and has another 5 i believe. I am very new to this whole federal system, can anyone tell me what downward departure is?
Downward departure is when the sentencing judge departs downward from guideline's or plea agreement. If your friend is already incarcerated he is past this possibility.
I was in the Medium at Leavenworth, it has been Medium since October 05 but still has the name "USP Leavenworth". It is the only Medium I have been in so I don't have any comparison to the others but if you or anyone you have in prison is going to a medium you should probably avoid Leavenworth, all the other inmates who have been to other mediums say Leavenworth is the WORST medium they have ever been to.
My husband is and has been doing time at FCI Victorville I. He says it good there better than any other place he has ever been. Plus it is not too far of a drive about 2 1/2 every weekend.

Hi Cristianswifey
My son is in FCI Victorville 1 also. He too says it's not too bad, better than the county jail here in No. Cal. But for me it's a 7-8 hr drive. =(
