Talking House Bill 40!!!! New expungement laws!!!

Has everyone heard of HB 40?!?! My Mr. heard it on the news this morning! Any body with family that has Class D's and lower can get them expunged (after 5 years.)

That is how the new law reads! F*** I'm excited!! It looks like, if im not mistaken, it only takes $100 and they do it.... (as far as i can tell, thats still foggy information.) But EVERYONE take a look!!!

DISCLAMER: I think this is still being passed, it looks like its gone up every year and its been dropped....

I believe it passed the House, but still has to pass the Senate. I think it should pass....we'll just have to wait and see though.

Should we do something, such as write our Senator, call, petition? Or is it at the 'just wait' stage? This could make a huge difference in the hope a person looses when faced with a permanent record that prohibits them from living a regular life!

That's a good question! It probably wouldn't hurt to call and request it... otherwise, I donno.

I think it's at the just wait stage. The bill has passed part and just needs to be presented and passed by the other. Crossing fingers always helps.

Engrossed means that it passed one house (Senate)..."dead" means dead. However, the link you provided shows that the dead legislation is from March 2015. The new legislation is still listed as "engrossed."

Its an election year, politicians would rather get elected/re-elected without having to deal with criminal justice reform. They're taking their time and I highly doubt anything will pass in an election year....but we can still hope.
