Default Kentucky lawmaker has proposed a 3-Strike law for Kentucky

‘Three Strikes’ Bill Would Put Repeat Offenders Behind Bars For Life

A state lawmaker has proposed sentencing those convicted of three or more Class A or B felonies to life in prison without the opportunity for parole.

Rep. Gerald Watkins, a Democrat from Paducah, said by the time someone has committed three severe felonies, they’ve missed the window to change their behavior.

Oh HELL NO!! And this Representative, Gerald Watkins, needs to be voted out of office at the first opportunity Hopefully it won't pass. I can't believe his shortsightedness Perhaps he should take a long hard look at conditions, new legislation and proposals coming out of California

EDIT: From the same article:

Quote:
The proposal would apply to those already convicted of at least two Class A or B felonies or capital offenses.
So...retroactive Son-of-a-bitch! My Mr has 2 Class B's (both for drugs, non-violent). He better get his shit together in case this does pass!!

...it wouldn't take that much digging. It's a mess that has spread across generations at this point. I hope advocates use Cali as a loud and clear example fighting this.

Hopefully it won't get far at all. Especially with the new Council on Criminal Justice Reform. Not that I particularly care for our new governor, his head does seem to be in some of the right places, though not very often at all. http://kentucky.gov/Pages/Activity-s...ernor&prId=109

A quote from the press release:
Quote:
“From the very beginning, America has been a land of second chances. Even so, many in our criminal justice system are not given a path forward to become productive members of society after they have served their time,” said Gov. Bevin. “I believe in the importance of supporting basic human dignity. When we hold individuals fully accountable for their actions while treating them with respect in the process, all of society benefits. I am excited today to announce the formation of the Criminal Justice Policy Assessment Council. Their purpose is to carefully study and then suggest actionable policy solutions for improving our criminal justice system.”
