Default No Access To Phone while in reception. Anyone have experience with this?

Hi, I got a letter from my bf yesterday from my bf. He was transferred to Wasco SP (CA) and will be in Reception for 4-5 months with no phone access. By his letter I can tell he hates it. We talked the day before he was moved. Does anyone else have experience in this type of "no calls allowed" housing? After this he will be moved to a federal facility for the remainder of his sentence.

It isn't uncommon for reception to be slow, boring, anxiety inducing and lonely. Part of that is the lack of program and the call restrictions. I hope he's transferred to his home facility soon so you both can find a routine. Until then, write, write, write.

Thank u. What I'm trying to find out is if Reception allows the new tablets on jpay cus this prison does allow them. When I called, they told me if he has no funds I have to send him paper, envelopes, and postage as he will not be given anything. Sounds awful.

My personal take would be, even if they allow the tablet in reception I wouldn't do it. He's going to be transferred to another facility and once he's established there, you'll know exactly what he can have. I would hate to spend that much money only to be told it isn't permitted at his home facility and he has to junk it. Yes, that happens.

I'm a little surprised they don't do indigent stationary packs, though. I've moved your posts to the Wasco Reception thread where folks might be able to give you more specific info. Best of luck!

You can send paperback puzzle books from Amazon or regular books that they can receive, mine just got a puzzle book I ordered him, but the no phones, ridiculous three months to maybe get approved for visitors is in my opinion a psychological attempt at breaking them down to the bare minimum point of being "unstable" enough so that when they finally see the counselor for evaluation and housing they are deemed far more mentally unstable and there for just "belong or serve" the entire sentence or some kind of way of keeping a person an inmate

I don't know why they're putting him through all that when he's a federal inmate & goibg to get transferred again. Thank you for the info though. I know he is going nuts because he has told me he can't take it. He just got there 9/10 so it's only been a couple weeks.

I know it's frustrating but in Federal he won't be able to do much. They use corrlinks to send emails, no tablets, or attaching photos like jpay. You won't be able to send stamps, paper, or envelopes....you will be able to send books through amazon or money for his commissary.

I haven't sent $ thru Jpay while he's at Wasco-Reception because I don't know if he is allowed to get it? He told me don't but I know he needs stuff.

No he received my stationary packages finally! Plus he was trading his food for extra envelopes and stamps but our mail is so out of sync its ridiculous how long they wait to get actual letters, three days ago he says there have been A LOT of fights breaking out so that keep losing the privilege of sending outgoing mail,so im very sad And worried no mail since

My husband said not to send money either apparently everyone knows your business in there and more money more problems the less "perks" you have the less people mess with you plus they get everything they need money at this point is for extras trust him

Exclamation Anyone else having long reception time?

My husband has been in Wasco Reception since June 22nd. He has not seen his counselor. When I called three weeks ago his counselors receptionist said she is barely getting into the June cases that week. I'm furious. This is taking way too long. This isn't his first rodeo. He did time and he had reception at RJ Donovan in San Diego. That was barely 3 months, this reception is at going to be going on 5 months. I want to speak to him. I'm dying.

I am sorry you're going through this...I don't have any help to offer, sometimes I think they just lag so much behind it takes forever with these things. My LO tells me he calls counsellors unicorns because you hear about them existing but never actually see them
(he's in a different facility though)

I hope your man gets out of reception soon - it's got to be near by now as it has been so long...hang in there!!

My hubs just got to reception but if he is past 90 days which is what they are supposed to only allow then I will be seeking a mitigation specialist. See they are over crowded and legally they are only supposed
To be held there 90 days. I keep
Reading about men in there for a year with no phone calls???!!! Wth!!??? Write your congressman and don't stop until
Something changes.
Unfortunately I have to wait the 90 days to see what happens. Ugh

Yes, you can visit behind glass. However, get your husband to send you a visiting questionnaire. You need to be an approved visitor, before you can visit. I believe it can take up to 6 possibly 8 weeks before it may be approved.

Chin up...stay positive one day at a time. I know it's hard, I was in your shoes myself.
God Bless.

Thank you. It's hard as in in Canada . Is it just one visit a weekend and how long are visits? I have to fly out to California so I want to make it worth it also I don't know if I should even take my son? Maybe better to not see him for my son just to have his heart broken again

Visits are 1 hour behind glass. I'm not certain if you are eligible to visit both days. Wasco's processing, visiting applications are lengthy. A patience cap is needed .

My application back in the day took 7 weeks before it got approved.

Did it take you 7 weeks including weekends or not I closing weekends? I saw some places that weekends didn't count in the process if that makes sense cuz they're only open mon-fri idk how true that is? I sent mine exactly 3 weeks ago..
