Default Brazil 'prison hell' for South African convicts

Brazil 'prison hell' for SA convicts

They were caught carrying cocaine out of Brazil - and now their lives are on the line.

The estimated 90 South Africans, imprisoned in Sao Paulo jails, have been caught up in the violent conflict between Brazil's most powerful prison gang and the country's armed forces.

The violence has rocked the city, leaving 150 people dead over the past two months.

Parts of this read as follows :

According to Gordon, female prisoners were frequently kept in 24-hour solitary confinement for days on end.

TB sufferer Daniel Albertze, 47, died following an asthma attack in the prison infirmary.

Albertze was still clutching his used-up asthma pump when he was discovered the following morning. Prisoners claim he cried and pleaded for oxygen. At the time of his death, he weighed just 35kg.

Another prisoner, Tadeus Borowitz, 74, died after a relatively easily treatable form of skin cancer on his nose was left untreated for nearly a year.

Borowitz's nose became so fetid that it had to be surgically removed and he was forced to buy plasters to cover the gaping holes under his eyes. His condition deteriorated until he died.

Well, you've got one person here in a similar circumstance. My foster brother was caught with 10 lbs of cocaine in his bag and got 3.5 years.
Backwards From Canada
