What is PTO?

PTO is a community dedicated to providing information and support to individuals impacted by the prison system in some way. Most of the members have a loved one in prison but there are also members who have been or will be going to prison, as well as a number of professionals who work in and around the prison system. Within the community, just about every topic is discussed: state specific information, capital punishment, medical and legal issues, relationship support, etc. Because of the unique knowledge and talent of the PTO members, there is rarely a question or subject that is unable to be discussed in a thoughtful and helpful manner.

What is Elsa’s Card Project?

Elsa’s Card Project is a program on PTO (named after a beloved, dedicated member who sadly passed too soon) where greeting cards are sent by PTO members to incarcerated loved ones of other members for holidays, birthdays and any special situations. I think this is something you might enjoy.

FYI: What is expected?

Being a part of this program, there are some things asked of you as well as from the Card Volunteer (CV).

• CVs will send you cards as your loved one requested. You are not obligated to respond. CVs have no expectations. However, you are free to do so if you wish or you can let your loved one know who sent you mail and have them thank the volunteer for you.
• Sometimes after receiving a card, individuals will ask if the CV is available for correspondence. Pen-pal requests are sometimes, but not always, accepted. The card volunteer will let your loved one know if they can or cannot accept your request at this time.
• Please do not share any of the card volunteers' personal information. They will respect your privacy and they expect the same from you.
• Abusive, derogatory, harassing or sexually oriented correspondence from either party is not tolerated. Contact from a CV must be in response to a member’s request and cannot be unsolicited. We expect that every participant, regardless of role, conduct themselves with respect and courtesy. If this does not occur, participation in future swaps and membership in PTO is jeopardized. If you have any contact from a CV which is inappropriate, unwelcome, or disrespectful, please let your loved one know as soon as possible. This is regarded very seriously and everything possible will be done to correct the situation.
• Some members will include puzzles, jokes or other little things for you to enjoy. If you are interested in anything in particular, let your loved one so they can advise the CVs.

Welcome to PTO and Elsa's Card Project.

Enjoy the extra mail!

Fellow swappers, here is the updated version you all have been asking for. Many thanks to Sassycat80 for preparing this updated version!
