Default Three Months Later

Today is 3 months since my man has been home! It feels like it's been years and just yesterday all at the same time.

He's doing pretty well - working full time and already got a promotion, losing some of the effects of 7 years of incarceration (I don't have to sit against a wall facing a restaurant door anymore! Woohoo!), and really positive about the future.

The road to "normal" as taken by someone who's never experienced "normal" in his life is a bumpy one, to say the least. He's wanted so badly to be perfect and have the fairy tale life he's dreamed of, but that's just not reality. It took a few negative experiences for him to realize that all those people he called friends when he was running the street aren't his friends out here and have nothing positive to bring him. He's had to wrestle with his habit of getting money how he knows when finances are tight....especially when I lost my job a couple months ago. He's had some mental health issues from the stress and had to let go of his pride and ask for help. And a million more lessons. But he's never lost sight of the goal and I'm really proud of him. Staying out of trouble and focusing on what's important.

We recently got a huge surprise...we're having a baby! This was not in the plans at all...we'd just been looking up the cost of a vasectomy when we found out a baby was coming. I sure wasn't looking to have a child with him so fresh out of prison and new in our "real world relationship" but obviously the fates had other plans. HE is over the moon excited, looking for a second job so I can stay home for a while, picking out baby names, and walking around with a perma-smile on his face. Too bad he can't be the one to carry it The hormones are already killing me...I fell asleep standing up at least three ones at work today!

Overall I guess you could say things are going pretty well! We've been making so much progress with jobs and our relationship that I'm really excited to see what the future brings.

Congrats glad things are going well. Key is to not let him get overwhelmed with everyday life. Good luck to you both.

He's learning ways to let off steam and not get overwhelmed. I tried to keep him from getting stressed but then I was shouldering everything myself and that wasn't good for us either. When I stopped obsessively taking care of him and he started taking care of himself, things started falling into place!

We have discovered that we need to make the time and find even just a little bit of money to go out and have fun together. We go dancing and bowling and swimming and to concerts and all kinds of stuff, but it's easy to slack off when life gets stressful and busy. But a night out can totally revitalize us and life doesn't seem so gray.

Thanks! No it's not either of our first. We both have kids as old as teenagers so we're both starting over in a lot of ways!

Yes, he is doing so well. He gets down on himself when he stumbles, but I keep telling him that he's succeeding just by virtue of getting right back up when he falls and kicking butt. The fact that he wakes up every day and tries to be the best partner and father that he can be is enough for me.

Oh my goodness it is crazy! 4 months ago I never would've dreamed he'd be home and we'd be pregnant. They approved him for parole, let him out two weeks later, and now here we are. Crazy crazy crazy.

Ah, so you're kinda back to square one with your boyfriends kids being so little, eh? I'm 33. Shocked to be so close to "high risk pregnancy" based on my age hah. Where does the time go?

I know this...baby comes, boyfriend gets a vasectomy! NO MORE KIDS and no more trusting birth control!
