Don’t forget to get the new state ID. The one with the star. You won’t be able to visit a federal prison without it. Also my guy is in Kentucky and they only have one hour visits noncontact. He’s five hours away and frankly that’s just too far to drive for an hour behind plexiglass

I don't see us visiting our son till next year. It's a 4 hour drive one way and to visit for such a short amount of time with no contact would be so hard. Add that we are living in NY state and there are so many states that we would have to quarantine for 14 days if we spend just 24 hours. Just not worth it right now. Hopefully things change and we would be able to have contact visits but till then it's just going to be phone calls. I do wish they have video calls available but it's not available at Elkton

Oh wow thank you! I hadn't read this. Still, at my husband's prison, one hour no contact visits are ridiculous. They're only doing it so the BOP doesn't have to offer free phone calls anymore.

Where have they started for certain that we need Real IDs to visit? Last I heard it was "certain" federal places but they weren't sure about prisons.

I hadn't even heard about Real ID, at all, until I read it on here.
Apparently, it affects all Federal agencies and sites.
This site has a good breakdown,

This one too,

Next up, our individualized, personal microchips.

Microchips implanted at birth.

Not long ago a national ID (show me your papers !) had absolutely no chance of ever happening. Now restricting access to mass transit, etc. without a "real ID" is step one, a mandatory requirement to have one is next. Then a crime (felony of course) for failing to update your "file" will be the law of the land.

George Orwell would not believe how intrusive our country would become, making big brother into a wimp.

I got my Real ID, just in case - and got abused for it, too. In CA the continuing lockdowns have made the local DMV branch workers very grumpy. I keep thinking that somebody needs to make a film about just the DMV during the pandemic. It would be a scene that would fit right into 1984 or Brazil.

There is no info about how each facility is planning on doing, but the BOP memo required visiting rooms be marked, on the floor, by 6 feet, and everyone has to wear a mask. the time will for sure be shortened to allow everyone a chance to visit. and the maximum visit a month is reduced to 2. Gone are the days when you can take the 5 hour drive, stay for the weekend, and see your LO Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at least until the pandemic is under control.

Few minimum and low facilities have plexiglass visiting rooms, so the non-contact visits are not even possible. the lobbies will be marked by 6 feet on the floor, like standing in line to check out in the grocery store. and the visit rooms will have chairs 6 feet apart, and you yell through your masks to talk.

The bop gave the wardens a month to implement the CDC mandates, but Forbes news article reports skepticism about their ability to figure out how.

My LO is 5.5 hours away. I want him to be safe (he's at Seagoville and has already recovered from Covid) but I'm willing to drive for an hour, or two, visit.
Hearing how he's doing, on the phone, is fine. It's not the same, however, as being able to SEE how he's doing! When he got arrested, it was a 18 months before we had our first hug. Yeah, it was difficult. But, the first time we hugged, after all those months, was the sweetest hug I'd ever had! Reminds me of the saying "good things come to those who wait!"

My son at SeaTac FDC (WA) said visitation reopens 10/3 and I (already approved for visits) can email and reserve a slot.

While the BOP site and specifically the SeaTac page still says visitation suspended due to COVID, I called and they told me to send an email to set/socialvisits@bop.gov

Sent email including prisoner and visitor details.

UPDATE - Received a response within 15 minutes and have a scheduled for a visit 10/3! Wish I wasn't going to be the FIRST person thru the door testing their new protocols but my son will be excited!

Will the visit be time-limited, I.e., one or two hours? Do you know?

Now FCI Ashland says visitation is on hold until further notice. They originally said this month (October), now "maybe" next month. I'm not holding my breath. Also, he is being released to a HH in a few months, but everyone's HH date is being pushed back a few weeks or more because the HH have to implement social distancing and there are not many beds.

SeaTac's site has all the details.

https://www.bop.gov/locations/instit...tation_tvp.pdf

i randomly checked a few facilities, and the ones without the "All visits suspended" banner all have covid-19 visit rules on the page.

Finally! Got to visit today at FCI Seagoville! Process was very smooth. Temperature taken before parking , given the visitation sheet to fill out and a pager and then wait in the car. Pager buzzed when they were ready to process us through. Visitation room was set up in a u-shaped configuration with visitors on the outside and the guys on the inside with a plexiglass between us and our loved one and clear plastic sheeting between us and our “neighbor” almost like little booths. Very hard to hear because of the plexiglass between us and the requirement to keep face mask on at all times. Air conditioner was pretty cold too. No bathroom access so if you have to use the restroom it’s a no go. No vending, of course. But given all that, even though we couldn’t give him a hug, it was WONDERFUL to see him with our own eyes.
