Question Son counselor called today

Hello everyone,

Well it is getting close. My son's counselor called this morning. He will be parolling to my home in December when released. I am happy, but not really sure what to expect. Anyone been through this yet?

Congratulations! December is just around the corner too. wow! I'm sorry I don't know anything about the parole parts. I've heard they come out and inspect the home, I'm unsure though.

Thank you all for the responses. You are such a great bunch here. Well I will just have to go with the flow. I think my son is scared to death to come out, I know he is willing but after being gone 12 years it must be very frightening I would think????

Confused08,

I'm very happy for you to hear that the process to release your son is underway. It's like a breathe of fresh air just reading it . Maybe you should write him and have him express his feelings both positive and negative (fears?) so you can have a better feel for his needs, ambitions and to smooth over his fears by partnering with him to get through them.
That's an issue that's totally foreign to me cause me son may still have about 14 years to go and I KNOW that he's gonna be like crazy high (up, elated, real happy) when he comes out and have big plans to get back into the entertainment industry and get connected to people who are in the know as far as referrels and letters to open doors for him to get his foot back in the door and get rollin'.

I know it's personal for every inmate but it would have to be so surreal (almost like a movie or dream) and you may wanna take more time than you normally do to write and just see how he feels on all levels and let him know that you wanna make things smooth for him and hopefully he'll open up. The concept of being fearful about being free after being in so long is interesting to me but I have heard that it's a common feeling that many have. Let's pray that he'll be given courage to face the new day with hope and a sense of direction and focus on making these the best years of his life which they could very well be. I would think you'd have to do a balancing act of trying to get him to share his plans with you without making him feel pressured or have anxiety about the urgency of his plans.. Maybe have a plan B for medical care or counceling to help him adjust and make him feel comfortable about being out. He will have done his time and will owe society nothing but to be like we all have to be which is to stay between the lines and obey all laws and his parole or probation dictates but let him know he's PAID his debt by serving the time and not to feel less than anyone on this earth and that he is deserving of love and every opportunity to find happiness that comes his way.

God bless the man and aren't you just proud of him for makin' it through? I hope the absolute best for him and that he'll continue to draw near to God for strength like we all have to.

Much love and blessings.
