Default North Carolina: Hurricane Florence

Does anyone know if Carteret Correctional was evacuated? I have not heard from my husband since Tuesday evening...at which point they said they were staying. Then I read in the news that they were evacuating some prisons, but they couldn't say which ones.

Default Hundreds of NC inmates are on the move because of Hurricane Florence

North Carolina officials say they have begun evacuating hundreds of inmates from state prisons and county jails who are in the projected path of Hurricane Florence.

For security reasons, prison officials refused to say which prisons are being evacuated, and where the inmates will be moved.

But in an email to the Observer, state Department of Public Safety spokesman Jerry Higgins said that several hundred state inmates and staff members are being moved to larger facilities. Several hundred more county jail inmates will also be moved to state prisons, Higgins wrote.

“All offenders affected by the move will be allowed to make a free phone call to a family member over the weekend,” Higgins wrote.

For anyone with an LO at Tabor CI, which happens to be on the NC/SC line 55 miles above Wilmington..which is in the direct path of Florence..they were not evacuated. Furthermore, the gym is full of cots and evacuees. Seems the place to take the inmates that were evacuated was there. I got a call yesterday. The prison will no doubt stand the winds..but I fear the flooding. I fear the prison could be inaccessible for days or longer. I also worry for frightened inmates and stressed out co's stuck there having to ride out whatever happens. Lets pray for our loved ones at Tabor.

Most prisons are built with cement and can withstand the winds. Rising flood waters is another story. We all learned that from Hurricane Katrina the sheriff's department abandoned hundreds of inmates imprisoned in the city’s jail. I don't think it will come to that. I'm sure they all learned from that experience and are better prepared.

I hope they haven't underestimated the storms potential, but I agree it's safer than anywhere else in that area. They said that they wouldn't move close security, only min/med and jails. I get the cost and the security risk involved. Still sorta shocked me, that the more secure facility chosen is the one in direct line of hurricane fire. I guess they didn't have much to choose from.

From what I've heard, Pender CI isn't being evacuated and they're just 30mins from Wilmington. But I haven't heard from my guy since yesterday afternoon and he usually calls by now.

Tabor is mixed classification..mine is close. Lockdown from 8 tonight til Sunday. If the ones moved in from other facilities get free calls the weekend, I guess we will see where they are.

Mine is at Sampson CI and I have not heard from him yesterday at all. So I assume the phone lines are either down or too long but I don't think he's being moved, this facility is about 50+ miles west from Wilmington. I'll just hang on and wait...

Just checked my boyfriend's profile and it states now:

REST.HOUS. ADMINISTRATIVE

What does this mean? I googled it and I found this:

NC DPS: Restrictive Housing for Administrative Purposes C.0300

https://www.ncdps.gov/.../restrictive-housing-administrative-purp...
Complete Preparations Now for Hurricane FlorenceGovernor Cooper declares State of Emergency ahead of Hurricane Florence Find storm information here.

So is this because of the Hurrican or did he screw up?

Not sure hun..rest house is a new term for admin seg, waiting on a disciplinary hearing. Sometimes they use it to separate an inmate from pop for whatever reason. He could have very well gotten in trouble, then again under the circumstances, they may have moved inmates in and maybe needed to free up space. We won't know til we see it on the news or get a call...

I'll wring his neck if he screwed up and that many that times over
I have still a little hope for a restrictive house because of that hurricane... let's hope for the best. Thank you!

I haven't heard from my boyfriend since last Wednesday... the tornados hit close to his facility, he is or was literally in the eye of the storm. I'm worried but I have to have faith and patience. I bet the lines are down, too.

Has anyone heard anything from your loved ones?
I still haven't heard from my boyfriend (it's been one week) and it still says on his profile "Rest.Hous.Administrative" and the date of the "control review" changed....
I'm confused more than worried because I have no clue... I know the flooding in his county is really bad but .... weird stuff.

I still have not heard from my husband since last Tuesday. I know they evacuated him to Maury, but don't know why he hasn't been allowed to make phone calls. I am getting a bit worried...we usually talk every day.

Free calls were allowed. It was an option on the recording when they dialed out. But I was told most calls from Lumberton were not able to connect. I hope everyone hears from their LO soon.

Rest house Admin will change to Rest house Discipline if he is found guilty of a write up. Regardless, he will have mail privileges so I hope you hear from him soon.

Finally got a call from my husband today, who was evacuated to Maury CI last week. This was the first time they were allowed to use the phone. Carteret CC did get flooding...not sure when they will get back there. Hopefully soon.

Greetings from the South of France... I'm enjoying myself (but still missing my guy).
