Default More prison closings?

Ok, I keep hearing there are more prisons closing. My friend whose husband was a Scott then got sent to Coastal said he was told by a CO that 5 more prisons are slated to close in GA this year. My hubby who is at Dooly also told me he heard it as well. I am new to this whole thing and it seems to me rumors fly like crazy in prison. So have any of you heard about more prisons closing in GA this year?

I'm not sure, but I could imagine all the ones in Milledgeville shutting down!! Each is just as old as the others that have been shut down! They were originally a mental hospital and aren't well suited for a "prison" environment! I think there are still 2 or 3 running there though... Those buildings should be condemned!!!

If more prisons close will they start letting people out early, especially non violent-first time offenders?

I'm sure there will be some provisions made, but not a "mass release" like we always hear about!!! And I'm not sure, but it seems like the state has really latched onto the idea of these fast track units...

Basically they are "more efficient" prisons... Click and read these two articles and it'll give you a better explanation...

http://www.ajc.com/hotjobs/content/m...ck_prison.html

They house a lot more inmates with about half the staff...

I think we all wish the rumors were true of mass releases. My husband the other day was talking about how one of the CO's were saying their will be a mass release around Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am not going to get my hopes high up, but I will keep my fingers crossed, lol.

They can start with these RIDICULOUS probation violators, in for stupid things, and let them out, put them in a small town where there are no jobs, no money, and most of all crooked cops, lawyers, and judges that are doing MUCH WORSE things than the offenders ever thought of doing..... WELCOME TO GEORGIA and expect them to support themselves and there families and pay all these OUTRAGOUS fines to the state when there is 2 gas stations and a dollar store as your choice for employment.... They are setting these inmates up for failure.... all to make a dollar.

COME ON VACATION, LEAVE ON PROBATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had a meeting with the comissioner the other week. He told us that the next prisons slated to close are:
Mens
Bostick
Montgomery
He said that it is a last resort though. He also explained why he closed the probation detention centers. He said on average, one PDC cost about 1.3 million/year to operate. They were only pulling in about 300,000 in restitution and fees. Now tell me how that works!? It was a great meeting with him. Very informative. Its nice to hear reasons from decision makers sometimes.

Coffee Correctional Facility is a private prison in south GA. I usually drive down every other weekend to visit my son. The last time I drove down to see him I noticed new construction on the property. My son said they are building an additional building, he thinks it will be for inmates that are doing a work detail????

From what my husband told me sometimes they do house the work details in a different area of the prison. He was at Scott and had a work detail in the laundry warehouse... After 2 or 3 days they moved all of those men out to metal buildings on the campus of Scott S.P. He really liked it though. He said the atmosphere was different because they had all worked all day long and had mutual respect for each other because of it. He also said that the buildings were air conditioned instead of just having fans in them... He said he felt like he had a little more freedom out in those buildings... And I'd also have to assume that it's easier and more efficient if all the men needing to get on vans/buses are all in the same place... Without having to move them or escort them all from one building to another...
