Default Brother dx with cellulitis, won't transfer to prison til medically cleared

Hello everyone.

My brother has been sentenced, and he's all set to go on his way, except that he's been diagnosed by the jail medical staff as having cellulitis. His legs are swollen and they aren't giving him his antibiotics regularly, so the infection isn't getting any better. The trick is, he's sentenced so they're supposed to send him on to his prison, but they won't do it until he's medically cleared. So, he's in limbo. I know that they don't give a...fig about his health beyond 'he's breathing' but I'm wondering: who if anyone can/should I contact to make sure their apathy doesn't cause my brother's health to get worse?

Have you gotten a HIPAA release signed by your brother?

There's not much you can do on his behalf until you have HIPAA secured. They won't release any information otherwise.

He needs to file whatever grievances available in that jail demanding appropriate medical care. Once you have his HIPAA authorization to discuss his health issues, find out who the jail has hired as their healthcare provider and contact them yourself. If he is not receiving antibiotics/followup tests, whatever, up to the standard of care for his condition, talk to a lawyer.

Since he has already been sentenced to a FL prison, this may help.

How does one go about securing HIPAA release? Is there a standard form for such?

Also, to answer Ms. Sunny: he didn't have these issues until well into a year of his stay.

He can ask at the jail, or you can google "fL hipaa release forms".
