Default 5 victims in 10 years

Iím going to skip some of the irrelevant backstory here in the name of brevity, so this story begins last night when I discovered that the violently abusive ex husband I divorced 10 years ago and had been enjoying life free from his abuse for about 5 years suddenly resurfaced in my town. I found out after a chain of seemingly unrelated events led me to check the active warrant list for my county.

There he is, with a warrant for three different charges. Aggravated assault (domestic), obstructing officer, jailer, or firefighter, and false imprisonment. The address given is a motel a couple miles away.

The (sort of) good news: heís been in town for a couple of months and has made no effort to see me, contact me, or make sure I know heís around. This is good for ME because the old him would have done this. Unfortunately, heís still essentially the same person so all it really means is that heís moved on to someone else.

Curiosity and self-preservation got the best of me, and I paid the $20 to get a copy of his record for the past 10 years. Itís absolutely sickening. Itís not ďsomeone elseĒ. Itís 5 someones. In the past ten years, this man has 5 domestic violence victims. The charges are similar.. usually simple assault, obstruction of 911 or obstruction of officer, and false imprisonment. Several for each woman, plus a few DUIs and traffic tickets mixed in.

Finally, this last charge, heís upped his game.

Count of 22-18-1.1(8) (F3) DOM ABUSE AGGRAVATED ASSAULT - CHOKING
On 07/18/2018 the defendant pled Not Guilty
Count of 22-18-1(1) (F6) DOM ABUSE SIMPLE ASSAULT ATTEMPT TO CAUSE BODILY INJURY 3RD OR SUBSEQUENT OFFENSE
On 07/18/2018 the defendant pled Not Guilty
Count of 22-18-1(2) (F6) DOM ABUSE SIMPLE ASSAULT RECKLESSLY CAUSES BODILY INJURY 3RD OR SUBSEQUENT OFFENSE
On 07/18/2018 the defendant pled Not Guilty
Count of 22-18-1(5) (F6) DOM ABUSE SIMPLE ASSAULT INTENTIONALLY CAUSE BODILY INJURY 3RD OR SUBSEQUENT OFFENSE
On 07/18/2018 the defendant pled Not Guilty
Count of 22-11-6 (M1) OBSTRUCT POLICE,JAILER OR FIREFIGHTER
On 07/18/2018 the defendant pled Not Guilty

Iím not sure what happened after that because they all say he pled not guilty, but thereís a warrant so apparently he didnít show up for something.

I have some hope that this will be the event that finally puts him away. Heís been getting away with 30, 45 days in jail or having charges dismissed but this is the first time heís been charged with a felony.

Iím not sure what my point is here. I just wanted to share I guess... and show how much a guy can get away with before getting hit with serious charges. 5 women in 10 years abused by this man. His time needs to be up.

And sadly I bet at least a couple of those women didn't really want charges filed. They loved him! He didn't mean to do it.

But yeah, it is time for this to end.

At least now he'll have to face real charges. I'm sorry you went through it, as well as all his other victims.

Not that I have to tell you, but it may be helpful for other members, choking is now a more serious charge than simple domestic violence across much of the country as research shows that victims of choking are much more likely to die at the hands of a abuser than someone who isn't being choked, regardless of the other abuse taking place.

In South Dakota it's a class 3 felony and he seems to have stacks of charges against him...so we can hope there's some justice.

There's a article from the Washington Post:
Quote:
The U.S. Sentencing Commission recognized strangulation as a marker of dangerousness in a 2014 report and recommended increased prison time — up to 10 years — for those convicted of it. Indeed, 45 states now recognize strangulation as a felony.

If he pled not guilty on July 18th and a jury trial is scheduled for October 1, what could have caused the warrant? It’s listed for the same day and the same charges.

Possibly jumped bail? Or violated in some way? They know his a predator so it's sickening that he was allowed out.

Yes, here in Idaho it's called "Attempted Strangulation" and carries much stiffer penalties (even for the first offense) than your run-of-the-mill DV charge.

A felony punishable by up to 15 years hard time.
