Democrats No Show At Public Hearing On Connecticut’s Early Prison Release. Lawlor Calls Hearing ‘Election Politics’

Posted by Dan Lovallo on Aug 22, 2012 | Leave a Comment
The Journal Inquirer of Manchester is reporting that Democrats, including the leading advocate of the early prison release program, won’t show at a public hearing on the new law in Enfield. Michael Lawlor, undersecretary for criminal justice policy and planning, who pushed for passage of the program, which was signed into law by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, is labeling the hearing partisan. The hearing, called by Sen. John Kissel, R-Enfield, ranking Republican on the General Assembly’s judiciary committee, is being held to address GOP concerns that the program led to an early release prisoner allegedly killing a Meriden shop owner.
