It is only the FCI. I was able to visit at the Camp this weekend. I was told that the day before there was a "celebration" for the 20th anniversary and members of the community were invited to tour the facility. Appearently some type of riot took place as a way to protest the celebration. I did not hear that anyone was injured.

I had heard the inmates were put to work this last week "sprucing things up" and also that new razor wire fences were being installed between all the buildings - guess it was for the "celebration." Who the heck celebrates a prison?? Z.

Excellent question, to which the only answer I can think of is, Someone who has never been there, or are out of their minds!!!

To make things worse, the celebration involved inviting members from the community to come tour the facility. Even children were allowed to attend. The whole idea of celebrating a prison seems so morbid.

But a bad zoo, with none of those nice natural habitats for the critters... um... inmates...

Hmmm... I've never thought of as razor wire fences as adding that festive atmosphere...

I was at the FCI Friday when lockdown took place. It was my first visit to my fiance. The guards were 30 min. late checking us in then we were only given 35 minutes before they called lockdown. I am just so glad that I got the 35 min. Apparently there has been alot of tension and there was a riot on the yard. Right now, lockdown is indefiantely. I am just glad that my man was with me and not involved.

There has been a lot of tension because of lots of restrictions being added when there wasn't a problem to begin with.

Well, this C.O. report doesn't talk about a "protest" at all:

FCI- SHERIDAN- AUGUST 28, 2009

At approximately 11:33 a.m., a body alarm was announced in Unit 2B. An officer observed approximately 15 inmates who were gathered near cells disperses as he walked toward them. A request was made for upper body checks of all inmates in Unit 2B. Two inmates were discovered with injuries consistent to a fight. Both inmates were medically assessed and placed in the Special Housing Unit. Mass interviews were conducted and it was determined there was a physical altercation between the two inmates. Several witnesses observed a group of gang member inmates jumping into the fight. Subsequently, during the response the inmates from 2-A and 3-A refused staff orders to return to their cells and yelled obscenities at responding staff. Unit 2-A and 3-A were secured immediately.

**At approximately 6:06 p.m., an officer observed an inmate pass what believed to be a syringe to another inmate. The officer ordered the inmate to submit to a pat search. At this time the inmate ran and threw an object on the roof the metal shack. When the officer attempted to take the inmate into custody the other inmate came from behind and punched the officer in the head and face. The officer went to the ground and both inmates continued to punch and kick the officer. Responding staff subdued the inmates and placed them in SHU. The officer received contusions and abrasions to his head and face. The officer was medically assessed locally and sent to the hospital for precautionary treatment. The SORT team was activated and transported both inmates to FDC SeaTac. The Institution remains in lock down and will remain so until further notice. The assault is a active investigation with the F.B.I.

Well, not all is right... I just learned that, during the lockdown (which actually began before any "incident" because the inmates were locked down all day and given sack lunches while the "celebration and community tour" was occurring) all the windows in the cellblocks were bolted shut - for good. No more fresh air for Sheridan FCI inmates on the inside! What the ....???? Oh - and the phones were switched to the "voice verification" system.

Geez... what is the reason for no fresh air? That seems cruel!

You can get into some serious stuff if you treat your animals like that...wonder who died and made it okay to treat people that way??? Sad.
