I have been out of the loop for awhile, busy with work. I just heard that they are shutting down a bunch of Georgia Prisons. Can anyone tell me which ones and what they are doing with the prisoners? My son is due to get out in Sept. of 09 and I was hoping this might speed things up. Also I have one that is in Jackson Diagnostics and was hoping that they night kick him home. He is in for a nonviolent offense and has never been in prison before. Any information about this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Barbara

Thats the same thing we heard and it is probably closer to the truth. The ones with only a few months might get out but they are evenbehind on that or so they say!! Good luck to all, cause we all need it!!!

Wait and see what will and can happen. Keeps your eyes open ladies and I am sure there will be alot of changes. I am just unsure if they will be good or bad. Let's all keep faith and think positive.

In GA there are always rumors of getting out early or big releases before x-mas and at the end of he year, speaking as someone who has been there it does not happen, all those rumors are just that rumors, people hopeing that something will happen.

Well does anyone know if this might involve Rogers State? My fiance is there and seeing as the only way we can talk is via the mail, I don't get very much information. It would be nice if they would send all the non violent prisoners home. But all the rapist and murders can stay. Sorry if that offends anyone, I say that coming from a history of rape.
Hi There everyone. There is no "big release" that is going to happen around Christmas (that would be a wonderful present!!!) I posted from last month's Georgia Department of Corrections Board meeting the realignment of facilities. Rogers is not going anywhere and is staying a medium security camp. There are facilities that are closing. There are facilities that are being changed from Closed security to Medium Security. A big one is GSP. The reasoning behind the changes are there are alot more inmates that are medium security than closed or higher security...plus MONEY. When I compose the minutes from this months meeting I will post them.
Take Care,
T

My husband is al burruss training center. He brought this to my attention and says that he's watched alot of guys leave that didn't expect it. He hopes to be one of them....LOL....Me too! That is a good question, what are they going to do with the prisoners? If you get any info on this please advise and I wish you the best!
sorry to tell you ladies but when the doc closes a prison, they just send the guys to another prison. they are not that kind or lenient to let people go home so easily. they just add triple bunks in already overcrowded dorms.

Tell that to the parole board. The department is not the parole board. We don't have anything to do with them getting out early. We are placed here to hold someone through the durration of thier court imposed sentence...the parole board is the only dept that has the authority to release them early. Contrary to popular belief...the two departments are not one, nor do they work together.
So instead of working with us to reduce our populations, they just leave them here and we are stuck tripple bunking! Doesn't seem right does it?

I remember all those rumors... getting out before christmas..it was so good to have hope of getting out early
I know they are moving around alot of inmates and I do know of one getting out like two months early (don't know the circumstance) but if they are as broke as they claim then they might want to think of something to do to ease the burden. No mail on Friday's and so many meals a week is not going to cut it when your still locking them up and throwing away the key.
