Inmate takes employee hostage at Jasper County prison

Associated Press

RIDGELAND, S.C. - An inmate has taken a prison employee hostage at Ridgeland Correctional Institution in Jasper County, authorities say.
Officers are negotiating with the prisoner who took the worker hostage around 12:15 p.m. Friday, according to the state Corrections Department, which would not release the name of the inmate or the hostage.
The rest of the medium security prison was secure and all inmates and employees were accounted for, officials said.
The hostage situation continued late Friday night.
A woman answering the phone at the prison refused to give her name and said all information about the situation would be posted on the prison agency's Web site.
There was no answer at a phone number for a Corrections Department spokeswoman.

Hostage situation at Ridgeland prison resolved without violence

Associated Press

RIDGELAND, S.C. - A 13-hour hostage situation with a suicidal inmate at Ridgeland Correctional Institution ended nonviolently early Saturday, according to the state Corrections Department.
Armed with a homemade weapon, inmate Lloyd Isaac, 35, took a female prison employee hostage about 12:15 p.m. Friday, according to a department release.
Isaac, who is serving a 50-year sentence at the Jasper County prison, asked authorities in a note and throughout negotiations to kill him, but the situation ended nonviolently about 1:30 a.m., the release said.
Isaac was convicted of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was assigned as an inmate assistant working with staff on a daily basis. The investigation continues, and the medium security prison remained on lockdown, the release said.
A woman answering the phone at the prison Saturday refused to give any information and then hung up. There was no answer at a phone number for a Corrections Department spokeswoman.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this picture? Why was an inmate that was in prison for sexual assault allowed to work around female employees....is that just plain stupid or what?

A job is a job is a job. If you apply, you have to do the same as everyone else.
