Arrow Can someone Parole on a Armed Robbery charge at 50% if convicted after

Can someone please help me? I have been searching every house bill in Mississippi. There is a new law out, and I am wondering if anyone knows if anyone they knew has ever paroled on a Armed Robbery charge. Or can Parole at 50% My loved one was convicted after July 2014.

Hi BB_228, Welcome to PTO From what I see under parole on MS DOC's webpage, persons convicted of armed robbery are not eligible for parole:

Quote:
An offender convicted of a crime committed on or after June 30, 1995 who has ever been convicted of any of the following types of crimes is ineligible for parole:

2. Robbery (Robbery, Armed Robbery, Armed Carjacking)
Further down the page, it states:

Quote:
Person convicted of Armed Robbery or Attempted Armed Robbery committed between January 1, 1977 and October 1, 1994 is not eligible for parole or earned time until he has served ten years of his sentence. As of October 1, 1994 Armed Robbery and Attempted Armed Robbery sentences became mandatory in their entirety and are not parole eligible.
https://www.mdoc.ms.gov/Community-Co...es/Parole.aspx

I'm sorry, wish it were better news

Yes an offender can parole out after 50% has been served. If you look up housebill 585 on the official mdoc site it will show the old law from 1977 and 1994, but if you read further it will state "These do not apply to anyone convicted on or after July 1, 2014". My husband was just convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to 21 years to be served under 50%. Now im trying to see if he can get released on ers before the parole date or get earned time that will get him released earlier.

Cay you please message me a link to HB 585 from official MDOC site? Disregard:

Quote:
...offenders convicted on or after July 1, 2014, the tentative discharge date and/or parole date will not be reduced below the mandatory minimums

https://www.mdoc.ms.gov/SiteAssets/Pages/default/House%20Bill%20585%20FAQS.pdf

Here is the text of the Bill as signed by the Governor....I don't have time to read the entire thing right this minute (got an appt), but I will later :

http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/documents/2014/pdf/HB/0500-0599/HB0585SG.pdf

Now, why don't the DOC remove the incorrect info from the parole page and replace it with HB 585?

I have no clue why they still have the old law there to read. Probaly to educate people about the past but the new law is definitely in there as well.
